I have run into a problem with shimano.  I called them looking for parts for a shimano scorpion.  They told me that it was a a Japanese reel and they couldnt help me.  I searched in every place i could think of to try and find the parts that i needed.  After searching for months i gave up.  now that this season is underway i really want to use the reel.  I called shimano back and asked to speak with a tech about the reel, and we cross referenced it with a reel that had the same parts.  They said they would send the parts.  Its been 3 weeks and I still dont have the parts even though they said they would be here...what should I do?

haven't spent a lot of time in this arena...  but I've run across threads that indicate folks over there have  a tremendous 'aftermarket' approach to shimano reels...

kind of like the little cars that get 'tricked out'...  from fuel systems that are anything but stock to tires, suspension...stuff like that.

I didn't go too deep as I don't speak Japanese.

Have they billed you?

Either way call them back and explain your situation. If they billed you they should have a tracking and be able to tell you where it is. If they didn't, something went wrong and your lost in the system.

Pro Reel is a great resource for parts. If you know the cross part number he may have it.

Did you actually order the parts as in you payed for them? If so, contact customer service and find out why you didn't get them yet. If it was just a tech being nice and he was going to just send you the parts for free, well then he might have got busy and completely forgot about you or misplaced where he wrote down your address. The scorpion is a Japan domestic reel. That means it was built to be sold only in Japan. The reason they do this is twofold. One is that Japan has always done this with everything they produce, they build slightly nicer models for themselves. The 2nd reason and possible the biggest reason some JDM reels are not supposed to be sold here are possible patent infringements. The biggest difference between some scorpion models and and the curado was that the scorpion 4X4 had an externally adjustable dual brake system. While I'm not absolutely certain about it, I have been told that the design was to similar to Quantum's external adjustable brakes and was an infringement. Some JDM reels are actually identical to their counterpart American reel. The Metainium and the Chronarch are so similar that I can't tell them apart without looking at the name plate. Some have suggested that the metainium spool is lighter, but it looks identical to me. I have never weighed them side by side though. Anyway, depending on which reel you have many of the parts will be identical and some of those that are not identical can still be swapped out with USA parts as they are the same size and shape but just built from different materials. You seem to know what parts you are looking for, so you could just cross reference a schematic from a curado. If you list the parts, I will see if I can help you. The biggest problem now though would be that Shimano no longer stocks most parts for the older curados. You may have to check with all the aftermarket and multi line parts dealers to track down what you need. I just found a gear set for a 200 B reel this week, and bought the last set this place had. If you need universal parts such as bearings or drag washers, those can be bought from several aftermarket dealers and will actually be cheaper and better than stock. One of the last ditch places to check if Shimano doesn't have parts is a place in Canada called Mikes reel repair. Mike has the largest inventory of parts of any dealer there is. He is also a lot more expensive than most and has high shipping charges with long wait times, but sometimes he is the only place that still has older parts. Not knowing what was wrong with your reel, is it possible it just needed a complete service? Many times a complete service will correct a lot of problems. let me know if i can help.

The Shimano Scorpion is the Japanese version of the Chronarch 50mg. I'm sure most of the parts will cross reference except for the brake system stuff. That's about the only difference. I've got one myself.

yes the Shimano Scorpion Brand Name refers to the Japanese Marketed Reels   Don't know why Shimano didn't use a Brand Name like that for the USA Marketed reels   those Japanese do like fancy names for there reels

the Spool in the Scorpion Metanium XT  was actually  about 3 grams lighter then the spool in the Chronarch 100SF  the Metanium Red model did not have the SF system  & the spool was basically the same as used in the chronarch 100    the XT  has SF system

the Spool is even a little  Lighter in the Scorpion Metanium MG Reel  it has the extra holes drilled in the spool

actually there was 2 Metanium XT models
fist model (Scorpion ) = the Chronarch 100SF
second Model did not have the  scorpion name   = Chronarch 100B

The Chronarch 101B  is the  Shiamno Low Profile Baitcasting Reel you see Jeremy Wade using on his tv show river monsters

Thanks for all the help guys.  I have the scorpion 1000 4x4.  The parts that I am missing/lost while on the water are 7,6,5, and 2.  I would tell you the exact names but they are in Japanese.  But they look like the drag clicker, washer and the nut to hold everything in place.  I still have the other parts including the old handle but would like a bigger one to be on.  Let me know of any other ideas you guys can think of.

Pro Reel how much do you think it would be if I sent it to you for repair granted I can find the parts?

Pro Reel

The Scorpion 1000 4x4 came with a 70 mm handle. Although the Scorpion was basically a souped up curado, it had a handle design similar to the Chronarch SF, just shorter for smaller hands. The Chronarch SF 80 mm handle is an easy swap and I believe that's still available from Shimano, if you want one. I would have to check and get a price, but it's probably around $30 for that handle. The other parts you mentioned are the same parts the Chronarch used and are readily available. Those parts would be less than $10. My standard clean and lube is $20, the super tune is $24 and the pro tune is $28. Shipping both directions is extra and would be at post office rates. If you want me to put the reel back together for you, then just pick a service level, decide if you want the bigger handle, fill out a service form from my site and send the reel. You should get it back about 2 weeks later as I won't actually order the parts until the reel is here.

good news bad news.  Shimano sent me some parts.  however only one of them was one of the 4 or 5 that I needed.  The reel will still work, but i would like to have the clicker drag plate, and clicker spring and screw.  I called them this morning and apparently the only person who knows about it was not in yet.  I was really hoping to be able to use the reel this weekend in a tourney.  I suppose I still can but does anyone know how they are with overnight parts.  And im hoping to get a new handle for the run around.  but Im prob going to buy one anyway.  The one that I had doesnt fit right.  Ill let you know how it all turns out.  And pro reel i still may send you a reel or two for some work once the season is over.
