I know...spring is still a darned long time away here in these parts...usually can't count on 'open water' (that's where it stays open and there's not even any pesky 'skim' ice) until early-mid March...

But with the kick off today of the Southern open, it's like the first official sighting of a robin in spring...portend of things to come, of hopes, of the dreams/goals of the new season...

It's a reminder to check over all the equipment, re-re-re-ogranize the tackle...install new fresh line...and start planning in earnest those 'special' outings that may include friends far away and/or destinations farther away than 'normal'...

cabin fever is hitting hard today...probably brought on by the upcoming 'boat show' at BPS this weekend...

58 days till the boat is out of mothballs!

:shocking: 58 days !!! Wow no way I could wait that long.... Thats why I live in good ol Louisiana..  you can fish here year round... lakes and ponds don't freeze down but may once every two decades... Our average temp in winter is low 30's at night and mid 50's during the day.  And thats only in January and February right after a cold front. Then it warms right back up.  We also have had alot of high 60's and 70's so far this year.

bear in mind that I put the boat to storage Nov 15...2011...so it's been 'a bit longer' than 58 days...

on the positive side, it has given me time to focus on some other important stuff...fitness, other fishing related hobbies...and have made good progress in all...

I know every year I wonder how you all do it. Even if it were not for the frozen lakes I just can't take the cold that long. Flip of the coin we had 53 days straight last year with heat index over 110. I would rather wear shorts than a parka though.

A dull hook would not be and excuse to miss a fish come spring if I were in your shoes ~shade

im the opposite Mike. The way i see it i can only take so many clothes off when im hot (and not get arrested). but if im cold i can always put more on lo lo lo

I'm with Cam....I can't take the heat....didn't even like it when I lived in southern Jersey.  Ideally I would live in the south in the winter and north spring thru fall but thats at least 12 years or so away when I retire.

Attitude predicts altitude.  How high will you fly?

Mike, there never are any excuses...as I know the reasons why most bass elude me.  It's the intelligence factor.   :surrender:
