I thought this might be a good place to add a forum for the Kansas State Bass Fishing Information. I know that there are a lot of you out there talking about fishing and this will give you a place to talk about the area fishing information that isn't really a fishing report. Things like slot limits, lake closers, Fishing and Game issues and trips or stories about Kansas.

Hey Casey I heard that the El Dorado tourney didnt go quite as planned.  Scott Feldt was an undergraduate student worker in our department and know him fairly well.  We got to talking about the tx last weekend and sounded like you guys had a rough one.  Sorry to hear it.  Milford this weekend right?  Its been tough so I hope it gets better for you guys.  Good luck.

cgs2004

Yep, it was tough.  Not sure how much Scott told you but I think the fish were biting but my 16' boat and weak trolling motor couldn't handle the wind.  The day before, we prefished and we caught 3 fish in the first 5 min, 2 being  nice keepers :o

Scott and I are prefishing Milford on Friday, then the tourney on Saturday.  Then next weekend there are tourneys out at Milford Saturday and Sunday.  I'll make sure to post the reports afterwards.

Prefishing on Friday was good.  Scott and I landed around 8 fish in 3 hrs.  My largest was a nice 3.5 lb LM.

ABA tournament today with a full college field.  The wind played a factor and seemed to shut a lot of guys down.  I happened to hook into a few nice ones and weighed in 4 fish for 9 lbs.  Next tourney is this coming Saturday, if the weathers good I think we'll be seeing fish on their beds ~fff

I heard the fishing sure picked up.  I called Scott while you guys were enroute to the lake and tried to give him some pointers.  Have any idea how scott did?  So you won the tournament?  Glad to see the lake starting to turn on.   ~c~

cgs2004

I believe Scott blanked.  Only 2 of us from the team even had fish to weigh in, I had 4 and another guy had 1.  The fishing picked up for me, I'm quite surprised others didn't find similar success.  I was picking up fish pretty regularly until about noon, then it started to shut down.  With the forecast looking like it is, the tourney coming up on Saturday is looking promising.  It won't be long and they should be holding onto their beds pretty good.

Casey do you guys still have the tx on Milford this weeked?  If so man you guys are hitting it just about right.  That lake is hot right now.  Good luck and keep up the good work.   ~c~

cgs2004

Thats what I like to hear!  The tournament is a go, we should have around 5 college guys.  I can't make it out there to prefish today >:( but I'm looking forward to tomorrow, the forecast is looking perfect.

Well it was a great day to be on the water.  A bit chilly to start off but it warmed up quick.  6 college guys came out to fish.  Josh Herrman of Kansas St. won with 2 fish and 5.4 lbs.  I came in second with 2 fish and 5.1 lb. followed by 3 anglers weighing in 1 fish a piece around 2 lbs.

Sounds like it was a good day to be out.  I talked with Scott a little after noon and he said he had one.  Guess he didnt get anything after that.  Sounds like you were real close to getting the win.  You fishing the Ahearn Kstate tx next weekend?  Congratulations again.

cgs2004

I had 3 in the livewell but the one I had hoped would stretch on the courtesy board didn't quite make it, tough break.  I'll bet Scott told you about his boater, 5 nice LM's weighing in over 15 lbs.  The fishing is defiantly on.  I wish I was fishing the Cabelas tourney, my pockets are getting empty though :)  1 more year of really learning the lake and I'll be ready to fish some money tournaments next year.  You fish any tourneys out there?

Yeah Scott sounded like he was pretty impressed with his boater.  Sounds like you are doing pretty well this year though, even though #3 didnt stretch.  Sounds like rain and possible storms for the Ahearn so may not be a bad tournament to miss.  I used to fish the wednesday nighters out there but now they've moved to sunday morning so I'm out for those.  Besides that I dont fish any tournaments.  Being a married grad student is a full time job for less than part time pay.   :roll2:

cgs2004

Yea, I'm doing alright this year, much better than last year thats for sure.  Its amazing how much better I know Milford than I did 1 year ago.

Those weekly jackpot tourneys sound pretty cool.  Do they have a website or do you happen to have a contact email by chance?  If I work up here this summer I might look into that.

They were awesome last year.  For this year I dont know who you would contact.  The guys running it changed hands so I dont know who's doing it now.  I'll keep an ear open though and let you know when they're having the first one.  It was nice when you could fish for 3 hours and make a nice stash of cash.

Wheres nationals at this year?

cgs2004

Yea, let me know if you happen to run into anything.  I think a guy thats usually at the ABA tournaments fishes those tourneys as well so I might ask him.

ABA nationals are on Kentucky Lake this year.  We also will be sending guys on the team to the Arkansas River near Little Rock to fish a ESPN college tournament and to Lake Lewisville near Dallas to fish a FOX Sports college tournament.

Hey sounds like the old wednesday night tournaments are gonna be at Milford this sunday.  I'm pretty sure that Chrsi H. is fishing it with a good buddy of mine.  Not sure of the start time but guessing that its gonna be 6 or 6:30.

cgs2004

Our team has a qualifying tournament Saturday evening so I doubt I'll be up for hitting again Sunday morning but I'll definatly talk with Hunter and get the info on the tournaments for the summer.  I'm still undecided weather I'll be in Manhattan or Olathe but either way I might try to fish a couple of them this summer.

Our first qualifying tournament for the ESPN SmashMouth National Tournament was yesterday on Milford.  Overall I'd say fishing was medicore.  I got first place with 4lb. 7oz., 2nd was Cole Shmidt with 1lb. 13oz.  3rd-5th place blanked for the day.  Our last qualifier date is still undecided but will hopefully be within the next couple months.

Sounds like your on a roll.  All largemouth?

cgs2004

Mixed bag, 1 LM at 2lb. 6oz. and 1 SM at 2lb. 1oz.

The other fish weighed in my Cole was a smallmouth.  I'd guess that 75% of my short fish for the day were smallies as well.  They were defiantly active as I was getting bites all day.

We fished our 2nd and last qualifier yesterday.  Fishing has been great and everyone weighed in fish.

With the last qualifier fished, myself (middle) along with Cole Shmidt (2nd from left) earned the right to represent Kansas State at the ESPN National Tournament in late August on the Arkansas River.

How did you guys fish that Casey.  You have three boats there and one person fished by himself?  Congrats again and give me a call anytime you want to run to Milford or Pott 2 or whereever.  Those guys Wednesday night said they won Tuttle with over 17 pounds couple weeks ago.   :o

cgs2004

I was actually thinking of fishing Tuttle today after I heard about the 17 pounds to win it but then I remembered how little sleep I've been getting the past few days and that I'll be boating all weekend with the family.  Darn common sense lo

We had 3 boaters and 2 nonboaters for the qualifier tourneys, we drew numbers to pair up boaters with nonboaters and yes, 1 boater fished alone.

I'll get a hold of you sometime this summer.  I plan on fishing Milford and Tuttle throughout the summer and possibly even a buddy tournament.
