With fishing pressure at the point where there is at least one Bass Tournament a week being held on Chaumont bay, and several of the pro tournaments held on the St. Lawrence River also draw a lot of anglers into the bay area,  The fishing pressure has been extreme the past few years.  Trying to find big fish is becoming hard to do during the warm water periods.  Decided to give it a try this week and even with the extremely low water was able to launch and get into the bay.

The early morning bite this time of the year if off and on and it was no different the day I was on the water.  Light breeze and water temps dropping into the low 60's gave me hope that some of the big girls would be swimming around.  Fished all my favorite shoals and weedbeds and found nothing.  Decided I needed to narrow my search down to specific pieces of cover I have learned in the past 40 years of fishing the bay and finally it paid off.  The winds were blowing harder and whipping the bay into a frenzy and as I hoped finally found some fish.  Caught several small ones off main structures, but the big ones were on very isolated pieces of cover.  First decent on was just under 4 lbs and it hit a Boogie Bait blade bait,   Worked another small piece of cover with a few good sized rocks on it and thought I hung bottom when the line moved off.  It turned out to be a 6 lb 9 oz largemouth which is a decent fish for Northern NY.  Caught it on a 1/2 oz BooYah jig with a skirt that I made and my favorite trailer.  Not 100 yards away I fished another one of my spots and a 5 lb 1 oz Smallmouth decided to inhale a 4" texas rigged tube.  Would like to say I caught more, but those three were the days best.

Nice fish Baron!  That largemouth has to be over 20 years old to get that size up there in NY!
