Shakey head fishing is normally on light line with wire hooks so a light to medium rod usually works best. This is best achieved for most with a spinning rod, however some build a good set up with baitcasting gear. For this presentation I like to keep my finger on the line and spinning gear is the only way to go for me.

Fishing is more than just a hobby

I use a 7:1 baitcaster, 7' M rod and 10 lb fluoro and it seems to work for me but most do use spinning gear it seems.

X2... I use as light of a head as I can possibly get away with, rarely over 3/16, usually 1/16 or 1/8 with a 4 or 5" worm. Casting gear would be more of a hassle than its worth in my opinion

It can go either way. When it first became popular, (finesse tactic), I was throwing the same worm on a heavier 3/16 - 1/4 oz. head w/ 15lb test and baitcasting gear. The fish ate it up. IMO, if you are in really clear, heavily pressured waters, then the spinning gear and light line might give you an advantage. In muddy/stained water like I fish, it's not that big of a deal.

I use baitcasting gear.  The biggest reason I dumped the spinning gear was the fact that baitcasters are easier on the line and you can get quite a few more miles out of Flouro.
