Our club made a trek north into Alabama on September 29th to fish our annual fall two-day tournament on waters we fish less frequently than others.  This trip we focused on Smith Lake in Jasper, AL. We had great accomodations as this was the home we rented;

Day #1 - Kent Moore took an early lead with two over the slot fish (slot fish were 13-15 inches and required immediate release) and 3 in the 12-13 inch range.

Jesse Suggs - Kent's partner finished up with just two fish but they were both over the slot and one was big fish day #1.  He also finished second day #2.

Day #2 - Jesse Suggs caught four keepers and three were over the slot.  Jesse took first day #2 and first overall - Congratulations Jesse!!

Joel Knight caught big bass day #2 and took second day #2.

Thanks for the report.  I live on this lake and fish it very frequently.  Any day you come home with more than 2 fish is a good day!   It is a very difficult lake to fish but they're definitely here.  I don't know how my cousin does it but it's not unusual for him to come in with 5 or 6 over slot.  For him to come home empty handed is extremely unusual.   Points and rock ledges is the favorite hangouts for the bass.   I've caught them on about every kind of lure out there but when they're on top a Rapala minnow while trolling is the best for me.  For casting, they do love a chartreuse curly tailed worm on a spinner.  They also hit Fluke minnows and spooks really good.  I have a friend who swears by finesse worms.  If I was up to good enough to fish tournaments successfully I'd be seriously considering getting into the fishing guide business.  If I ever get my house built I'm sure I'll be renting out apartments for retirement income in a few years.
