Last night after filling my gas tank I took paper towel from the dispenser at the gas station to wipe up a small spill on my boat.  The cap was off and a piece no larger than 1" square fell in the tank.  Will this cause a problem?

Your filters should catch it pre motor but it can cause you problems i would get it out.

I gotta ask, how would you go about getting it out? Besides trying to pump all your fuel into plastic tanks and hoping it comes out that way?

The gas should eat away that small of a piece shouldn't it?

Hopefully it would cause it to break up, but no telling how long that may take.

Worse case, it could clog where your line connects at the tank, or even in the fuel line itself. Then you would have to drain the tank anyway & remove the lines to locate the clog!

Yeah I 'spose but when it breaks down it still leaves stuff that hopefully would be caught by your filters.

believe it or not, but it looks like paper towels do not breakdown in gasoline.  I drew fuel from the tank into a glass container and put in a piece of paper towel and closed the lid.  It has been in there for 3 days and occasionally shake it up.  I have not noticed any break down.  Now the real fun begins!

And that's why they say do not throw paper towels down the toilet.  Nothing breaks those things down.  If you can get into the top of your tank and try to locate it, this would be best.

when i pull the float assembly will I need a new gasket.   It looks like rubber to me.

it will clog the screen in your pickup tube if not removed. usually happens at high speed when a large amount of fuel is being pulled by the motor. I would try to get it out. not an easy task though. once had to remove a screw from a customers tank. major pita. good luck.

also, if you remove the sender you should have a spare gasket on hand just in case you need it.
