Top lures in your tackle box

It has been awhile since I bought some lures and my old stuff will mostly be tossed out.  It has a bunch of Mepps, daredevils, spoons, etc.

It has been a while since I last fished and am now learning Texas rig, Carolina, etc.  I bought some Charlie Slider worms and grubs and from the forums I have seen that spinner/crankbaits, raps, worms, Senko's and rodents/similar lures are must have in the tackle box.  Anything I am leaving out?

I am hoping for a nice gift certificate to Bass Pro for Father's Day and a shopping spree!

I've had a great amount of success using a senko wannabee.  It's a watermelon/red zoom speedworm with the tail removed.  Texpose it on a 2/0 offset shank worm hook weightless.....   I use a sidearm skipping cast, even in open waters.....letting it fall to bottom, setting for 20 seconds, lifting slowly to feel for fish and if nothing on, letting it re-fall and waiting another 20 seconds......lift again and if nothing reel in at a moderate pace and cast to another likely spot.  Works well for both largemouth and smallmouth. 

Having no internal weight it falls much more slowly on the drop, making it seem more vulnerable to the fish.  Watch your line at all times.....it's a winner.....

What I toss is dependent on structure, but:

1. Wide assortment of plastics: lizards, worms, crayfish along with various size bullet weights and wide gap hooks. Include tubes and tube head jigs.  Green pumpkinseed, watermelon, purple, june bug, black to name a few of my most productive colors. White has recently been a producer on my usual waters.

2. Spinnerbaits in various single and double blade configs; white, white chartruese and black

3. Topwaters: pop-r's and Zara Spooks

4. Crankbaits:  rattletraps and a too many configurations to speak of.

I probably carry about 5 lbs or more of tackle in the boat (not including about 8 rod/reel combos of my ~18) which means I'm leaving about 15 lbs at home.

Baby Paca craws and spinnerbaits this year. Last year was frogs and flukes.

SENKOS i just bought some earlier this week to try because i have been reading up on them i have caught more fish with them than any other lure or bait in my tackle box i caught a nice 19" bass today on them and i also surprisingly caught a 24" catfish out of a small pond on them haha it was great

I've always got a 1/4-3/8oz spinnerbait tied on one rod.  A Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog usually 1/4oz Tungsten sinker but the wind dictates that or Zoom Speed Craw.  On my crankbait rod I'll usually have a Bomber 4a.

My favs are KVD 1.5 square bill cranks, Rage craws on jigs/swim jigs, and T rigged senko worms.....other than that it's mostly just random plastics.

Texas rigged watermelon/cream, and watermelon/lemon senkos are my top producers right now.. Last couple trips have seen some success with a chrome Rattlin Rap too.

Top producers for me of late have been Excalibur Zell pops, frogs both hollow belly and buzzing types, Damiki Armor shads, seven inch Berkley power worms, senkos and square bill crankbaits especially the Luck E Strike RCs in 1.5 size.

you are going to get many varied responses because:

Most of us have too much tackle. 

Your tackle box should have some of each type of bait:

Spinnerbait:  3/8 in white with double willow and one with chartruese and colorado blades

Jig:  you should have a standard flipping jig in Black/Blue, watermelon, or PBJ  Wouldn't hurt to have a swim jig too.

Chatterbait:  A vibrating jig is a must have.  I prefer dark colors like Bluegill or Black/BLue.

Frog:  A zoom horny toad in watermelon red - also a black spro frog

Crankbait:  You should atleast have a shallow crankbait like a Manns -1 or a squarebill,  perhaps a mid running bait like a bomber or norman deep lil N -  I like baby bass or bluegill colors.

Lipless:  I like several.  The excaliber one knocker and the Yozuri vibe in baby bass

Swimbaits:  Are awesome.  I'd stick to the smaller ones in natural colors like a Basstrix or YUM minnow.  But also consider a Zoom Swimming Fluke or RI Skinny dipper.  Dont' forget weighted swimbait hooks to go with them and your frogs.

Topwater:  So many good ones here.  If you have a black jitterbug - save it as a classic that still works.  I like Pop Rs, LC gunfish - but a Norman Top Dollar works well.  A Sammy or spook.  And a buzzbait.

Jerkbaits:  A must have is a LC pointer in ghost minnow or a Rapala x-rap xr8 in olive. Soft jerk baits - Zoom super flukes in watermelon or pearl.

Soft Plastics:  There must be a billion to choose from:

Sinking worms:  A senko has to be the # 1.  Just starting out - you should buy a bunch of senkos.  I would also say a zoom trickworm.

Tubes:  Strike King coffee tubes work well

Creature baits:  I like Zoom baby brush hogs

Craws:  I like Paca Craws

Drop shot:  Any tiny worms -  robo worms

Too many soft plastics -  one can easily go overboard with soft plastics.
