Hey guys leaving tomorrow to be a Marshall on the Elite Series on Toledo Bend...I'm just trying to gather some great questions for my pro that I ride around with to ask...obviously I want to limit my questions to minimum while they are at work therefore I don't distract them...so give me some ideas or maybe some obersvations that I should focus on while in the boat with them...when I find out tomorrow who my Day 1 pro is I will let ya'll know...sounds good or sounds awesome?

bob_rugratz

imo let him catch a few so the pressure is off. Then just say how did you do that?
If you cast it. They will come.

I rode as a Marshall in the Classic on the River and I've fished a couple with them as a co-angler.  One thing to remember is they're just as excited and anxious as you are at the beginning of the day.  Give it an hour are so and if they want to talk, the conversation will flow naturally.  Have fun!

Maybe when the time is right ask how he determines what areas of the lake he chooses to pre-fish and then what areas he chooses to start the tournament...does he save an area for later bite or hit it right off...

Congrats on getting in the boat with one of the elites... ~c~

Anything to do with pre fishing would be right up my alley on this one. Toledo is huge so how do they break it down in a short period of time.

Probably lots of idle time on Toledo, use that time while he's not fishing to see if communication is going to be natural or not. Like you said it's their job, so if you feel like your bothering or causing a distraction take it on yourself to let him talk when he can.

try to be as much help as you can at the launch, getting the cover off the boat, ice, lunches, etc. most of the pros will let you help them and they are very nice. i tried not to talk about fishing for the first few hours and let them clam down and catch some fish.  then i told them i was there to learn anything that i could from them and i was surprised at how much info they gave me.  The What,Where, when, why, and how questions for the day were all answered without me asking a bunch of questions. It was an awesome week for me at the classic. Have a Great Time!

The questions for me would revolve more around how they continue to catch fish from the same area or school for 4 days straight! I can find a few fish but I can't even catch them 2 days in a row much less 4 days with other anglers usually fishing them also. How to deal with fishing pressure is the key I think as everyone usually ends up in the same spots doing the same thing even on a body of water as big as Toledo. Much less a little hole like Cross.

My question is for you guys that have shared the boat as a marshal before.  The fee you paid is that for just (1) day or is that for the entire event?  And once the cuts begin do you get asked to continue or are you told thank you for your time and youns just leave at the end of the day?

From the little bit I've read its sounds like being a Marshal is a great time.  Did you guys help launch and retreive the boats at the end of the day?

Good draw, not that any of them would be BAD but some better than others. hope the wind lays down for yall, could be a rough ride, doubt they slow down for anything. Main reason I didn't put in, bad back.

Just finished my Day 1 with Chris Lane...overall good day only one big bite that went 7.14 and had his best 5 go 17.2 for around 20 I believe...just caught several around the 2 to 2.5 range never got any more big bites...I saw how to catch a bed fish which was probably the coolest thing...other than that they are fishermen like you and I...Day 2 pro draw is John Crews...keep y'all posted....

Heck yeah, I'm signed up for the Lake Wheeler marshal program. Looking forward to it and more of the Toledo Bend experience from Setdahook .... less the big winds!  ~shade

the fee covers 2 or 3 days depending on whether you get picked for the third day.  You get a marshal shirt, cap and $25 BASSPro shops gift card.  when you sign up if you're selected you get days one and two, you can sign up for day three but only the first 50 to take day three are guranteed.  They only take 6 on day 4 and once those 6 are selected that's it. I've done it twice, good experience both times

Good info Chris, Thanks.   ~c~

I didn't see a day three option when I signed up so I guess I'll take the boat and fish Day 3 and 4 myself.  ~gf
