Anyone use this rod for deep cranking?  Other applications you also use it for?  I do not believe I will regret buying it for a deep crank rod.

Mike Cork

I personally don't own that rod, I have used it a couple times and it is very nice. I have several of Dobyns cranking rods and love them, the action is fantastic, cast like bullets and extremely sensitive.

If you spend a lot of time with deeper cranks it's well worth it and you will enjoy this rod. I just don't do enough of it to justify having one yet.

Do you think the 764CB RM would be a better all around crank rod.  Handling deep and well as some shallower cranks? I think the 805 may be ok as well with some cranks in the 10 foot range.

Mike Cork

Yes I do, for all around that is. If you think you'll be in situations where you need to through a 10 plus crank all day long you'll probably enjoy the extra length on the 805 as it makes casting larger baits easier. But if your looking for a great all around you love the 764.

I have gotten to where I use a 705 glass for anything less than 10 ft all the way to a shallow running square bill :-*

To be honest I just haven't had the first complaint out of any of them.

Sorry I'm a little late but I have that 764CB RM and it is a great rod for all crankbaits. I  use it for square bills and deep divers.

I decided to go with a shorter rod for a more all around crank rod. Purchased the Dobyns Champion 705CB.  If it doesn't handle deep cranks well I will find a place for it (lipless, squarebills, med. runners).  I am looking to buy a couple more crank rods (Champions) in the next few months since that is what I love doing.  Come summer will probable buy a rod for deep cranking only.  The 705 may handle them fine, we will see.  Thanks for the feedback

Mike Cork

I think it will handle them fine. Keep us posted on how it works for you!
