i have a switch with bat 1 and bat 2 on it.

i turn on the trolling motor bat1 it shows 12 volts and runs.
leave trolling motor on and switch to bat 2 and it shows 10 volts. and the speed is the same.

why does one switch give power but not show a drop in voltage when on? and with 2 batteries in parallel (12v system) should it be dropping to 10 volts?

It sounds as if Bat 2 is dead and when you turn on both it pulls bat 1 down.

It's either as Joe mentioned or you're completely switching to Bat 2 and it is low.

Can someone please post a correct wiring diagram, for a 12/24 sytem ??

If the jumper wire between negative and positive between #1 battery and# 2 its not there it will only run one speed  when u switch it. I know this through  fault of my own..
