a good truck to tow a 2008 nitro 929 CDX

My buddy wants to know whats a good car to tow a nitro 929

I think we are going to need a little more info. How far does he/she travel/tow? That boat depending on how it's loaded will go in the 3500# to 4000# range. You are going to want a mid to full size truck to stop it safely. I tow my Z-9 with a 3/4 ton Dodge. I am planning some short trips with my Grand Cherokee this year and I think it's going to handle it fine but I won't say until I do it first. The biggest thing I will worry about is my wife backing it down a wet ramp with gravel on it.

Any ford F-150 will be able to handle it for short distances, but if he is traveling a lot and a long ways he might want to think about getting an f250 with a diesel. The f150 will still handle the long drives well, but the with the diesel he will barely know its back there and won't take such a big hit on the fuel economy. If he is looking at chevy or dodge he better look at the biggest he can find, cause he'll need it.

Just kidding, that goes for all brands. 1/2 ton should handle it, but in the right situation a 3/4 ton with diesel will be handy.

My opinion, the f150, ram 1500, silverado 1500 will be fine. If he doesn't have trailer brakes(he probably will) he may want to look into some. It will be good for the long run.

Any full size truck/SUV 1/2 ton or bigger will be fine. My dakota towed it just fine as well but the boat is 8ft wide and just felt like the boat was driving the truck when I had to stop suddenly. D's new Darango tows it just fine as well and as it is built off a new platform and not the dakota seams to handle the stops better, & I've used a dodge Mega Cab to tow it now for 5 years now without issue.

It's a diesel 300 hp, used 2008 is going for around $100k though. One heck of a boat pullin 4x4 though

I agree with the others, 1/2 ton will be fine as long as it's geared right. No, you don't need a diesel...my 3/4 ton GMC pulls my 35 foot 5th wheel just fine and i'm betting it weighs a LOT more than that Nitro and it's just a 6.0 gasser...with 4.10 gears.

Yeah but if you opt for a FORD, at least you know you'll get there!

But seriously, my 88 F150 1/2 ton pulled a Ranger 520V without a problem.

ill bet your fuel econemy isnt great tho. my 5.9 dodge gasser gets bout 12 pullingmy 19' nitro. diesel is better on fuel. but the pros and cons of both can be argued about for days by most people. get what you like, and is practical for you. but always get at least a 1/2 ton for pulling a big bass boat. its just so much safer. small sized trucks are not built for it at all.

no offence but, do you think it is weird how GM discontinued the 5.7 and now Toyota has one? kinda weird.... i think they sold it to them, but thats just me. I'm not sure but its prolly a 350 block. does anyone know? i know this is a bass forum but its still relevent i guess.

All joking aside, I've owned a Ford, Chevy, and Dodge and had no issues towing with any of them. The Ford had a straight six and I like the lugging power and didn't seem to matter if I was towing or not still got about 16 MPH. The chevy had a 6.0 and pulled no problem, got about 16 mph and the Dodge has a 5.9L diesel and pulls anything I'd want to tow and gets a bit better mileage as long as I keep my foot out of it.

Regardless of what brand you get a brake controller will help.
