i was looking at different portable fish finders and came across this one. i was wondering if anyone had used this product and what your thoughts were on it. did it help you locate fish, or just see the make up of the bottom. thanx for the input

I have an older PiranhaMAX 215 which is pretty much the same thing. I used it once on my canoe, I built a custom wood mount for the transducer that just floated in the water next to me, and got a good outline of the bottom.
The fish tracking is a bit hit and miss, sometimes a branch, small piece of vegetation or something else may be shown as a fish, but as you start to see other shadows below the "fish", you start to be able to tell if it is indeed a fish or just a thick branch or clump of vegetation on a branch.

It works well to get an idea of where the fish may be but do not rely on it completely for definite fish locations.
My wife and I had 22 happy years... then we got married.
