haven't really used worms wacky style. i usually stick to texas rigged most of the time. and once in a while i have a lot of luck on calm days just letting the worm without weight slowly hit the bottom in shallow areas and just barely twitching it sometimes saves the day on finicky fish.
but anyway, wacky style worms. i saw a show on the weekend showing the use of sliding  o-rings onto the worm and then slipping the hook like a small octopus under the o-ring. didn't catch what was being used to make the barb weedless though.
what do you guys do?

I don't bother using anything to make them weedless.  Basically you described exactly what I use for most of my wacky fishing.  A soft stick bait or a Zoom trick worm with a rubber O ring in the middle.  I fish these with a 3/0 circle hook most of the time and have not seen any need to add more hardware to make them weedless.

If you fish these slowly like they are meant, they will actually land and lay on top of vegetation and when you give a gentle tug on the line it lifts the bait off the weeds most of the time.  If not, a snap of the wrist usually cleans the hook free.

When I fish a Wacky worm in vegetation I use a Gammy or Owner weedless finesse hook.  You can still pick up some grass, but this is as weedless as you can make a wacky rig.  ;)

thanks guys. the show i was refering to this last weekend definitely made them weedless too. he had something stretching from the eye of the hook to the barb. it wasn't a rubber band but it thought i heard him say "hair" something or other. wish i had heard what he called it. but i appreciate the ideas even without it being weedless. i'll experiment a bit this season.

That would be an Owner or a Gammy Weedless finesse hook.  ;)

I tried several brands and styles of weedless wacky hooks and actually found I lost more fish then when using a plain circle hook.  Last two years I have not bothered with using any weedless wacky hooks and have had no problems with good hooks ups and little to no tangling in most types of cover including wood.

I have been using the Buckeye Flick It jig heads with wire weedguard. You might take a look at those for your weedless/wacky presentation.

I havent found using a weed guard makes them weedless.  It helps a ton if your throwing them into trees.  I think Baron said it right; fish slow and it will land on top of weeds.  Give a tug here or there and thats all you need.
