Just over the hills from Tuttle Creek reservoir is one of the prettiest little Flint Hill lakes a guy will ever see.  Just under 100 acres with great visibility and weed beds, depth changes, wood etc.

Has a reputation for giving up mainly small fish and tough conditions.  My brother and I apparently hit it just about right...

25-30 largemouth bass mostly off the BPS XPS Pro Model buzzbait (Chartreuse) in the backs of the creek arms in the weed beds...2-4 feet of water...as long as the cloud cover was there.  Buzzing the baits just fast enough so the blades would actually break the water and leave a slight bubble trail...brother had a few startling moments when the 2 pounders would 'short string him'...

He had a nice one (4 pounds?) that went aerial on him and spit the bait back...beautiful green markings with a deep black lateral line...great fish...great thing to see...

There are smallies in this lake as well...

Nice to have a boat and move around the lake...they did not want a horny toad buzzed on the surface...but the real buzzbait was the ticket.

There are some great bass lakes in NorthEast Kansas...if you're every up that way... ;D

Pott 2 is where I used to fish all the time before I moved. Its a great little lake and Ive had alot of luck with catfish there. Not much luck with bass, but then again im a newbie bass fisherman. Now I have to find the good spots on the herington lake and reservoir.

never fished Herrington...although I have to think the Flint Hills reservoirs are just about all 'great'...

definitely some of the prettiest waters out there!

not sure what you mean by pretty lol, all the water around here seems pretty murky to me. I really need to figure out what lures and baits and colors work best around here. Then again im not very familiar with all the different types of rigs that are out there. I use what I call Trey's simple rig LOL. Its difficult when you dont have umpteen rod/reel combinations to set up a bunch of different rigs to switch off when you need to. So I came up with a way to change out lures/jigs and whatnot fairly simply. It could be hurting my chances of catching bass, but what can ya do?

Taco, occasionally I'd drive up the highway on the way to Manhattan from my home town...and we'd pass Herrington.

Okay, so the water's not crystal clear...but it is relatively clear for KS waters where I grew up...and fertile.  Add to that the grasslands in the flint hills (although you have some farmground there as well) and the landscape is awful pretty...

I miss that country.

don't put it down...plus you could take a short jaunt up the road to Geary County ... like that lake too...

Not putting it down...just seem like there would be alot of lakes in other states that would be more clear and blue or green, that would be alot prettier. I grew up in manhattan since 2 years old. I have fished a few of the areas around here, pott 2, pott 1, tuttle creek, council grove and my favorite so far, fancy creek. Fancy creek is great. It has some of the more clear water ive seen and has some really nice catfishing, and the drum you can get out of there are awesome. Its too bad I moved further from there instead of closer, but who knows I might find the herington lake and/or resorvoir to be just as good or better fishing. Council Grove wasnt bad either I might fish there a bit more often since im a little closer now. Time will tell and it is always fun trying out new fishing areas. I see your point about flint hills being a beautiful area though. Though they are starting to build so much more housing and crap I dont know how much longer that will last.

I grew up fishing Pott 2 for catfish. My dad isn't much of a bass fisherman but he'd take me out there for catfish from the bank all the time. Now my little sister goes to K-state and I'd been promising to take her fishing so I drove back and met her out there for a few hours. Lake was a lot smaller than it seemed when I was 5. Water was pretty clear and looked like it was probably a little low. Fished for about 3 hours and caught probably 10-15. Most of them ate a shakeyhead or a squarebill crankbait. Biggest fish was probably 16-17 inches on the crankbait. Tough lake but it is a nice little lake.
