I'm kinda bored so I figured I'd share how I ended up catching my first Rockfish on my home lake Tims Ford...It was mid-summer sometime in the mid 1990's. I was only like 13 or 14 years old and my dad and I were fishing a little Wednsday night bass tourney out of the bass club at the city park here in Winchester, TN. We drove all the way down to the lower end of the lake to hit a couple places that we'd caught some pretty good smallies the weekend before. We were both throwing C-rigged 6" zoom lizards. I remember as if it was yesterday where the water level was on the rocks out on that point all the way down to the pumpkin seed-fire tail lizard I was using and my dad's pumpkin seed-chartruese lizard. We never had all the fancy stuff by any means. At the time he owned a mid 70's model 16' Astroglass in the most god-aweful two tone metallic flake GREEN color you'd ever seen with a Mercury 115. She ran like a champ though  ;D . Anyway, at the time I'd never caught a rockfish, hybrid, or any of those great big "trash fish". So when I got a hit on that c-rig and rared back on it only to be nearly yanked out of the boat was a HUGE surprise (for a 13-14 y.o. kid it was AWESOME!). That fish, which at the time I just knew was a tournament winning smallie, stripped drag and pulled that little astroglass around in a circle before I finally pulled him close enough to the surface only to see a big ol' striped side profile. Part of me was pumped to the max full of adrenaline and the other part was kinda let down because I knew that fish wasn't gonna win a tournament for us. Needless to say, I was tore all to peices to catch a fish that size regardless of the species.  ;D

It weighed a little over 12 lbs and is hanging on the wall at my house to this day. I'll never forget that experience.  :)

If I remember I'll post a pic of the mount. May even throw in a scan of the polaroid if I can dig it up.  lo

Sounds likea fun experience. I've had those times where you hook into a huge fish and find out its not the monster bass you hoped for. Please post a pic if you can.

I had already forgot about it...  ;D

Here it is about 14 years later....(Today)
