I don't run around fast enough to warrant side imaging on my bow...but when I add another HDS up there, I'll be able to network it ... and see the stern unit image...

I've been using Humminbird Side Imaging on the trolling motor for many years and is "My Eyes Under the Water". Biggest advantage is coverage area and the ability to look where you want. Look at the speed there in NO Minimum speed required for side imaging it just takes some form of movement to build picture like images. Here are some of my favorite finds with Humminbird Side Imaging...Compare the coverage area remember 20 degree sonar is 1/3 of depth...

Thats a common misconception.   To see fish you don't even have to be moving to see fish on DI, SI.  See the speed on these images...  Doug pretty much pioneered Si on the T Motor.  I was dumbheaded there for a while until I tried. it.

Mike I don't know about Pioneering but I had to try it because what it did on the back of the boat I could see benefits on the bow being able to control where it was shooting...well it has benefits and it rewarded me with a $12,000 Payday at the 2007 FLW Stren Championship at the Mobile Delta...Here is a Journal how it helped me: http://www.724outdoors.com/Fishing/journal_detail.asp?wID=54&iArticleID=2051

guys,

You might be the perfect ones to ask this question. I am in the market for either the 898 hummingbird or the L7 w/ LSS1 Lowrance unit. I am not really concerned with the cost of either, but i am more worried about the mounting to the trolling motor. It is my understanding that the L7/LSS1 will need two transducers and the HB898 only needs one. They seem to be pretty equal with the readouts and the split screens but i wanted some opinions from people who have them. Some people say its a "Ford/ Chevy" decision, but i would rather go with people who have water credibility. From what i heard, Lowrance had an issue with the gaskets and units were getting ruined because water got in them. I am running the Lowrance 522C in dash and the X-97 on the bow. The new unit is only going to go up front (from what i was reading below, thats where some of you have it mounted) and with the L7/LSS1 transducer dimensions, i will need a custom bracket made to fit both on the TM. Let me know what you think. I want to go to BPS to pick their brains, but have not had the time to go yet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I've been running Side Imaging on the Trolling Motor since 2006 and absolutely love it. With Humminbird it only takes one transducer. The Standard Transducer has all the Elements for Side Imaging, Down Imaging and Switchfire Dual Beam 2D Sonar all built into one easy to install transducer. Here are a couple of my installs with the optional Transducer Shield from www.transducershieldandsaver.com which adds protection of the transducer and helps mount the transducer.

I mounted 898c on the Bow with a RAM Mount...

If you have any questions I have been running Humminbird Side Imaging since 2004 and logged thousands of on-the-water hours so I should be able to answer most of your questions.
