I have noticed not just on this website but also other websites people that are fishing alone and how they take the pictures of their catch. Some lay them on the ground ( not good if you are practicing CPR) and others try to hold their fish with one hand out stretched  while taking the picture with  other hand. To be honest I did the same thing. It just doesn't show the quality of the fish caught. So I decided to come up with my own way to take pictures. I went out  and bought  a floor plate. Next step was to find a pole that would fit into the floor plate. This was pretty easy because I found that an old tent pole worked great. I cut the pole to the length  I needed. Then I got me some JB weld and stuffed it into the top hole and placing a screw in it. Let harden for a day.

I already had a tripod for my camera so I took the top off of it and placed it on the pole I made

Then you just screw the camera onto the top just like  you would  when using the tripod.

What is nice about this is it is very stable in high waves and high speeds when moving around. When its raining I simply take a big zip lock baggy and cover it and zip the bag so it can't come off.

Now  I have a camera mounted in my boat that can swivel a complete 180 degrees and move up and down just by turning the handle lock. Now once I have boated the bass i can push 2 buttons on camera to take a picture. ! to turn it on and 1 for the timer which is pre set for 15 seconds. Total time bass is out of water is just  1 minute and you end up with pictures like this

If you see something you want to take a picture of  lets say on the shore you just turn the camera and presto

Pretty simple to make and now you have a camera system for your boat that very stable. It also works great for video cameras also. The holder holds a video camera because they are the same size screw in for the top as a camera.

Its screwed down. But the pole will also fit in my back  seat floor plate also.. I screwed it down In case I need a third seat for fishing if I take two other people out fishing with me.

Very kewl Idea, as I am one of the guilty. Laying a fish on the carpet in bad weather.  Thanks for the tip and a very novel Idea!!!

Fantastic idea. And I have a couple of old, cheap tripods I can experiment with.

Thanks
The world is full of people who can hear a loud bang, feel a sharp pain in the foot, notice smoke trickling out of their holster . . . and never put it all together

Excellent job!  You could also buy one of these for about $20 and not have to modify your boat.  It uses your existing pedestal hole, is compact and will fit just about anywhere.
