I wonder if it would help to start a not-for-proffit group, such as the Lake Bisteneau Preservation Society, and try to raise some funds to help the State with buying chemicals, or organizing groups to help trim tree limbs.  I would be happy to help on the legal paperwork.

A while back I had organized a salvinia collection day but at the last minute things kinda fell apart. I have been thinking and what if we convinced LDWF to rent a small barge and we fill the thing up with salvinia and LDWF can spray the big piles. That way the salvinia would be mostly concentrated in one area. I realize it would take more than one barge full of salvinia to have and effect but it's better than nothing. They really wouldn't have to spray it if they didnt want to spend all that money, which I know they won't. They could let the heat dry it out and then bury it or burn it. That would be a lot less expensive than injecting Galleon.

Galleon only knocks it back on Lake Bist. It has been proven not to kill the plant. Surface only.

Heard a rumor today that Cheniere lake in Quachita parish was being sprayed by crop dusters?????????  Salvania has also gotten bad in this lake along with all the other vegetation. Anyone have any info on this??
Never know unless you GO

BIG PAPA

I did a quick tour of Caddo Lake today and All I can say is from Marshall break up including Jeems it is BAD, By the end of the growing season it is going to take over the main lake. There are huge areas that are unreachable with a propeller boat. Even the hyacinths are getting bad again.

Unfortunately, there is absolutely no way crop dusters could be used on Bistineau. There would be too many cypress trees. Now if say, Grand Bayou became infested with it that strategy could be effective because it has no cypress trees to worry about.

Papa I do know that Texas had a guy out there spraying around Tucker's. It was only one guy though. I'm sure it didn't do any good but it's good to see them actually doing something. Texas is pretty much always fighting the stuff. It's a shame to see a big rain come and move all that salvinia around to places where, when the lake goes back down, it can't be reached. :(

BIG PAPA

Right now Texas is worse than La.
Actually Hyacinths are Ok as long as they don't get to bad, they will hold fish and they appear to be pretty easy to kill.

PAPA if you think Marshall Brake looked bad the other day you should see it today, looks like I have another 50 to 75 yards of lawn to care for. When there is current coming down Jeems it will circle out and around Marshall Brake then come back at the shore line. With the help of the wind all that loose salvana is really stacking up. I moved here in 1981 and have never seen anything like this. I not sure this isn't a terrorist attack. Surely someone knows how this chit got here.

My idea is more to incorporate a not for profit organization to help pool together interested parties, including property owners, to help cooperate and coordinate with the State, and to raise some funds to do whatever the State would allow, including trimming trees.  My offer was to draft all legal documents for the formation of the organization.
