I have a new-to-me 2001 Nitro 700 LX w/ Mercury 90. This is my first bass boat, I'm used to an old under powered 16ft boat and a 25' big lake boat. The high performance outboard thing is a new to me.

I'm still learning how to drive this thing, but my main question is this:

I've only had the boat out once, but when coming out of the hole the boat was listing to port quite a bit until I got up on plane and trimmed out just right. I didn't play with it much since it was really cold out. :)

Is there an online tutorial on how to best come out of the hole and get on plane? I'm sure I can learn it with some trial and error, but some advice from the veterans would be nice. I'm used to having an inboard with trim tabs on my large boat.

Its probably just engine torque.

Its probably just engine torque.

Also sounds like you may need to equal the load in the boat. You may be running more gear on the port side  making it a heavy pull to one side.
As far as the best way to get on plane, experience is your best teacher. Keep your motor trimmed all the way down until you have planed then slowly trim up until you either start to porpose or the motor starts blowing out, then trim back in just a little.
Hope this helps. Good lot with your new rig.

I have the same boat and motor!  (Motor does have a dolphin fin on it) Bought it last year, and like you I'm new to the High performance boats.  To solve this problem DO NOT trim the motor all the way down or you will get the list to the side!  I keep my trim up about 1/4 of the way when starting a hole shot.  This stopped the listing.  Once you are up on plane slowly trim up until you are about half way up!  Hope this helps ya!

What you're getting is engine torque, standard operation and to be expected.  Start out with the engine all the way tucked in and as you come up on plane, ease uour motor up watching your water pressure and RPM/speedometer.  With experience pick out the optimum on RPM and speed.  Water pressure needs to stay at the highest all the thru.  Happy boating/you're on the way.
