Ever since i tried this on one of the Fat Free Shads the first time, i have done it to a few more cranks. It actually works, i didn't think it would, but i have caught better quality fish after modifying the bills. here is a pic of the fat free shad, still needs a little trimming on the bill @ the bottom, but works perfect

How has it changed the performance of the lure? Tighter wiggle, doesn't dive as deep, Dives to desired depth faster?

All i have tested it in so far is my bathtub, since we took the pool down, but it runs alot tighter and kind of rolls, and gets deeper pretty quick. action looks killer. I'll get in out ont he lake here in the next couple days and add some more info and maybe try and get a video

Great I'll look forward to the report. I was thinking of doing this with a few cranks last year but couldn't find enough info on results to make me think it was worth it.

i was the same way, but i buy a bunch of these so i have backup in case a screw one up! lol. The one i did was a 4'-6' model, i am going to do a 10'-12' later. will get reports on both

Looks interesting.  What do you use to shave off the bill?  Dremel tool?  Also, how do you know how much to take and still keep it symmetrical on each side?  Is there a way to measure that or just eyeball it?

there's another topic on here, i think it is under "Fat Free Shad" there is a link on it that shows a good picture of it. I just eyeball it and it turns out really good, the one in the pic needs a little more taken off the bottom on the left side, but i just went by the picture i found in a magazine.
Yes, it was done with a dremel, and a round sanding bit.
