I just replace the stock 25 tempest on my 08 929 w/225 opti with a 25 fury.  I lost 4 miles per hour, from 69mph to 65mph, while rpms stayed the same @5650. ~xyz  Anyone have any advise?  Thanks.

If you can exchange it, go to a 25 maybe a 26 or go with the 26 tempest.

Sounds like your RPM's are in the right range [maybe a tad low] so I wouldn't look at a higher pitch. Not familiar with a 929 whatever it is, but it must be a pretty heavy, inefficient hull, maybe a ranger. Most bass boats with a 225 will run up in the low 70's. One needs more info such as depth of motor on the transom, jack plate setback, boat load,GPS speed or speedometer. You definitely don't need to load your motor more with a higher pitch prop.

A 929 is a nitro. They are a heavy hull.  I think the biggest problem is props are not tuned out of the box. You can put 3 props out of the box on the same boat and all 3 will perform differently.

Shawn's right, it is a Nitro with a heavy hull.  I have a 10" jackplate.  Not sure of the exact propshaft height.  It's 12* outside right now so I'll have to check it when it warms back up.

The Fury didn't help on my heavy Legend hull either, but I didn't loose. Actually hit the same speed as the Tempest. My question would be, why are your rpm's that low. Your hull is a touch heavier, but my 225 XS turns a 25p Fury/Tempest to 5900.

I might need to raise my plate a touch.  Max rpm's for it is 5750.  It's a reg. opti, not the XS.  It's just out of break in so I haven't had much time to mess with it.

Are you sure the max RPM's are 5750?  Mine is listed at 5650 but I also have a 2003 Opti and you are right the PXS and the Reg Opti have different RPM rating's.

I own a 2003 Nitro 929 back then and still today the speed rating right from Nitro is 67 to 69 and most folks I've talked to to get it set up run 66 to 68 with a 25 tempest but have to worry about the R's in the winter.  I have been told for a few years to go with w 26 tempest and hit 70.4 running up river on the red.  I'm running just under 3.5 inch below pad and only turning 5500 Rpm now but Once I bring it up again a bit more life should be great.  The hole shot is just a tad slower then with the 25 and it still handles great without the worry of hitting the red line as much.  Nitros are not known for speed but they can hold there own in rough water and have more front deck room than any other boat I've ever been on.

BIG PAPA

Now I know my boat is crazy light so I am not comparing RPMS, just concerned about my motor. I can turn a 26 Tempest plus over 6100. what is the factory standard for the 225 EFI. I am guessing Rusty had the limiter removed or raised cause we know he liked to go fast. lo

I believe it's around 5700 papa. If that motor is stock, you may want to tone it down a bit. I know when I was over reving my old 120hp, I gained mph by getting the correct prop.

I just checked again and the book says WOT rpm range is 5000-5750.

Ok Cool, 5650 will not let you hit the red line.  I do think you can come up on the motor and would keep an eye on your water pressure and RPM's and keep coming up until you loose speed or pressure  or start to red line.

I also didn't read your 1st post correctly I thought you had gone from a 25 tempest to a 24 fury.  As you are running a 25 furry then the next step I would look at a 26 tempest if bringing the motor up doesn't help.  Make sure you get good starting measurements so you know how high you are now.  Before I started messing with mine it was just a tad lower then 4 inches below pad and have found that with my motor/load and the 25 tempest that 3.5 below was the best for me.
