Planet mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting in August. It will look as a large full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on Aug. 27 when mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27, 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time mars come this close is in the year 2287. Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

Wow. That would be really wild if it's not true, luremaster. It has been in the papers here locally. I haven't taken the time to look for it myself but my wife and kids have an interest. I guess I better check into this further to see if it is a hoax.

I haven't found anything yet about the current topic of Mars this year, but I did find something about the bit luremaster mentioned of 8/27/03. Here's a link for anyone interested.

I have been unable to find anything on Mars sites relating to this "happening" in 2005. If anyone finds info on this please update all of us.

Looks like Luremaster was correct. It happened in 2003.

Before the sun starts to rise, the only 2 things visible in the Eastern sky are Mars and the Moon, but Mars will only look like a large star...October 30th, Mars will be approximately 45 million miles away...that's as close as it will ever get.

My wife says that there were meteor showers visable last night and again tonight. After I get off work, we are going to drive out into the country with the telescope to try to see them well. She found this out while investigating the mars thing.

I heard that the Mars thing was a joke but it would be cool to watch a meteor shower but we couldn't see much of it here in Chicago

Maybe you guys don't plan on seeing mars this close again.

But in reality, how big will mars appear, probably just like a large bright star... and not large like the sun, anyone have any info on that?
