I have seen a few float and fly rigs used in the winter time, The ones I see most is where the float is pegged way up the line. I use a slip cork from COMAL and it works great. I get the 1.5 inch (which adds very little resistance when the fish hits)and rig it with a bead on top and a bead stop above the bead. you can fish as deep or as shallow as you wish, and the best part is you can reel the set up to the very end if you want. It makes it easeir to cast and you can use a shorter rod. I use it mostly for crappie fishing.

P.S. the heaver fly used may require a larger cork.

well hope this tip helps somebody.

I'm glad to hear someone else uses a slip float! I've been doing it for many years, and like it much better than a pegged float for all the reasons you mentioned!

I also 100% agree with you about the float size! The trick, in my opinion & experience, with any FNF ( or float ) rig is to use a float that is just big enough to float the jig weight being used. Too big & bites are harder to detect, plus it adds to much drag, too small & it won't float properly.

Good Tip!  ;D

Personally I like the Everlasting Slip Bobber.  Dont' need beads.  Check it out, just google Everlasting Slip Bobber>

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

i use my sheffield steelhead floats
they are held on with air tube pieces and can be adjusted to anyplace on the line
they are plastic and the bottom is clear so all the fish see is a dot on the surface

i'm also getting alot of action on zonker type flies and jigs

Cool, and I think anyone that tries them would think so too!  I did a site review on them a while back, don't know if it's still there.
