One thing my bass fishing friends have done over the last few years to save some money is buy a lot of our terminal tackle and soft plastics in bulk such as a box of 1,000 worm hooks, barrel swivels for C-rigs, etc.  A lot of manufacturers will give you a break on the price if you are buying a lot of 1 specific item or color.  The smaller guys are almost always willing to give you a break on the custom pours and such because it is a little cheaper for them to make a lot of one color than a few of each.  You can save some money on shipping costs too as some will even throw in free shipping on orders over a certain amount.

Bulk purchases, really only make sense, if you use a lot of the item being purchased or are combining a purchase with others.  :-*

I buy a lot of hooks, fly tying & tackle making supplies in bulk, and I've made mistakes a few times!  :embarassed:

If you only use a few items per season, and are willing to spread out the expense over a long period of time, then yes, buy in bulk. However, it often means a larger outlay of cash, which in these harder economic times, may not be a good idea for everyone. Only buy in bulk if you can afford it.  ~shade

For example, if you buy 1000 hooks at $50.00, and you only use 100 hooks per season, you've still got $45.00 worth of hooks sitting in storage. That's $45 that may have been better spent on other things. Multiply that times 10 purchases, and you now have $500 worth of supplies. That's great if you'll use it, but if not, it's a lot of money sitting on the shelf.  :'(

If you buy in small package quantities, you will spend more per single piece, but the initial cash outlay will be less. It may be better for some folks to spend $50 on everything they need for a season, then to spend $500 that will be spread out over several seasons.  ???

Each persons needs & financial situation is different, so choose the best course for yourself. It's a matter of spending wisely!  ;)

What we do is usually get a group of people to split the bulk order items to keep each persons initial investment down and save on shipping.  ;D
