I HAVE A TOP SIX TOURNAMENT THERE THE 1ST OF MAY AND ALSO A COMPANY TOURNAMENT THE 1ST AND SECOND OF MAY. I CAN LET YOU KNOW FIRST HAND AFTER THAT.  FROM THE INFORMATION I'VE BEEN GIVEN THE BASS ARE STILL SHALLOW AND SHALLOWER. THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKENDS HAVE NOT BEEN THE BEST WEATHER WISE WITH FRONTS MOVING IN AND 20+ MPH WINDS. THE BITE HAS BEEN SLOW MOSTLY BUT PICKS UP FROM TIME TO TIME. MOST FISH ARE BEING CAUGHT ON BABY BRUSH HOGS AROUND THE SHALLOW GRASS AND DOCKS. HICKEY ISLAND IS A GOOD AREA FOR TRICK WORMS AND SENKOS AGAIN AROUND THE GRASS. FROM WHAT I HEAR IF YOU FIND GOOD GRASS YOU'LL FIND FISH. JUST SLOW DOWN AND PICK IT APART. AS YOU KNOW, IF YOU'VE FISHED RC, IF THE WIND GETS UP AROUND 10+MPH YOU COULD BE IN FOR A ROUGH RIDE, THIS LAKE IS WIDE OPEN. BE CAREFUL!!! :o ;D ;D ;D

:-[It wasn't pretty but someone had to do it! Once again Richland Chambers did a number on a bunch of anglers. It had some help from the weather also. Friday night we  had some huge thunderstorms blow thru here and dumped a load of rain from Oklahoma down past Corsicana. We started the day with 10 to 15 mph winds with gusts to 35mph. If you've ever fished RC you know what that means. Trailering to the nearest ramp to where you want to spend the day! Hiding in the back of some cove and trying to stay out of the wind. Temps were in the 50's early and didn't improve much later.
The Texas Christian Bass Assoc. top six tournament went well for only a few. One team dropped out before noon and several had only 1 or 2 fish per team of six. But as usual someone manages to find a honey hole. One team found some fish in the grass on a ridge, tied to a boat dock and fished there all day. They were Carolina Rigging large ring frys in a watermelon or watermelon red and caught a fish about every hour. (talk about patience) I had to leave to make the weigh-in at another tournament and didn't get the total of fish but I know it was only 5 or 6 for 28.9? lbs. They had 1 over 8lbs., 1 over 7lbs., one somewhere around 6lbs., and another around four were the largest of their stringer. They really smoked the other teams. None of the other boats on their team caught a fish. I managed one for the only fish for our team at 3.33lbs. on a watermelon jig/craw. There were nine six man teams.
The other tournament, Texas Glass Association yearly tournament didn't do much better. The first day (Sat.) first place had 15lbs., second place had just over 5lbs. and my 3.33 was somewhere close to third. Again the grass was the answer. Sunday was a beautiful day and many more fish were caught. I caught 7 fish with only two over 14" that went 5.95lbs. They were caught where the winning stringer the previous day were caught. Carolina Rigging watermelon/candy baby brush hogs. We stayed there hoping for that one fish an hour but it was obviously fished out. I didn't stick around for the final numbers but will post them as soon as I find out. There were 37 teams.
Typically spinners and texas rigged worms or craws in 3 to 5 feet will catch fish. Carolina Rigging pumpkin/chartruse lizards on the points will work also. Shallow water is the key until June then the mainlake points, pond dams, and humps are the key. Not many people (including regulars) fish RC for numbers but there are a bunch of big fish here and they are caught on a reguler basis. (Not by me!) It is a challenge, and I like it!       Where's the spel-cheker? ;D

Fish Cobra,  do you know if Austin Christian Bass Club fished that tournament?  I used to belong to that club, back before I moved to Louisiana in '96.  They are a pretty tough club, and a bunch of great guys.  I just found out they won the 2003 Honey Hole Top Six Championship in Del Rio.

Cobra,
my brother lives in Mexia and pumps some wells around Richland Chambers, so he gets over there every now and then.  He is a meat fisherman, does not fish for blacks very often and is not interested in tournaments, but loves the white bass run there in may and June and I usually drag my boat over there on a weekend and we slay them.  Keep us up when they(white bass) get to running and I will check with him.  went 2yrs ago and they were schools so large it was like rain, it was a trick to cast and not get bit, we took ice chests full out in 3 days, what a blast!!!!!!!

thanks

good fishing

Marty,
The Austin club was there.... they're the ones tha left early! Around 9:00 am. I don't really blame them, they drove a long way just to face RC on a cold, rainy and windy day. Not much to look foward to there!
Gunter1309,
I personally don't do much sandie fishing but will stay on top of things and let you know when things start to pick up. My guess would be any time in the next couple of weeks will put you in the morning schooling action.
