They do a good bit of jugging at Deja Vu....oh wait, you are talking fishing.  They are a lot of jugs on Cypress from time to time, but it is mostly at night or early morning.  I think there are too many skiers and jet skiers during the day.  I have heard that they do pretty good at night.  One guy I talked to a year ago puts his jugs out at night, runs them about midnight and then runs them again about daylight and picks them up.

We have ran jugs on Black Bayou the last 2 weekends. My parents live on the lake and have been out of town so we were more than happy to housesit on the weekends ;D.

The first weekend we baited most of our jugs with live bream and a few shrimp. We caught one cat and a couple BIG gar.
This past weekend, we used shrimp and some shad. Did better on the shrimp than the shad. Put them out right at dark and then checked them around midnight. Out of 23 jugs we had 5 fish and a bunch of bare hooks. Got up about 6 am after sleeping a few hours and ran them again (& pulled them up before the lake got crowded) and only had 4. Almost all of them still had bait??
Most of what we caught were mudcats and ops on our jugs. We catfished off the pier and caught quite a few decent channel cats. Nothing over a couple of pounds though.
We ran all of our jugs both weekends on the East end of the lake on the other side of the bridge. I know there are some big cats out there. When I was still in high school, we caught several 20-25 pound  fish on our jugs. I grew up on Black Bayou so we usually ran jugs and lines 2-3 times a week.
Doc, if I can be of any help on Black Bayou let me know!!

ive got a friend who caught an 12 and a half pound bass jugging, sounds a little farfetched, but i swear to god. he caught it in the middle of the lake on a ridge in 3 foot of water on a shad :'( wish it had been kept alive

hey bassaddict,
when yall run the jugs, what size hook do yall use??  how long is your line off thejug??  what do yall bait them with??  is ther a certain area that you normally throw them out at??  just checking.  looking for a place that i can take my girls and maybe catch some fish.  they enjoy just throwing them out and picking them up.  do you normally throw them out in a big "slick" or do you spread them out a bunch??

thanks for the info and as always, drop it deep and yank it hard.  .  .

hooks are 3/0, I think. We tried shad and whole bream but didn't do too well with either one. Seamed to do best on shrimp. Both times we ran them on the East end of the lake. We started right at the powerlines that cross the lake and threw them out down towards the spillway. Threw some in deep water and some in shallower.
We have been using part of a brick to weight them down but some still were not on bottom and were able to drift a little.
We normally just idle around the lake and drop them. The time it takes to get another jug, bait it and drop it while idleing just in gear is about the distance between them. We usually throw 5-6 like that then run across the lake or a little further down and throw some more.

What would be cool is if we could get several of us together and cover the lake with jugs!! One end to the other!!!
