Hi folks, new here. I have a question about my Garmin 160 Blue fishfinder. The screen is blank and won't come on but it makes noises when I enter buttons like its supposed to. Is this a fishfinder problem or a transducer problem?

How old is the unit?  Do you have a horizontal line going across the screen, or is it completely blank?

Its completely blank. No color at all (not even all black). I'd estimate it to be about 4 years old.

Well, that's a bit more discouraging.  Sounds like the screen may have gone out on you.  I know Garmin has had a lot of issues with screens going out from their handhelds, car units, to fish finders.  I'll see if I can find an answer online, but I don't have any suggestions right now...

Have you reset the unit?  Do a full disconnect from the batteries and reattach and power up?

Hmm. I've tried disconnecting from the power and starting again. Same outcome. I'm sure Garmin doesn't issue a 3 or 4 year warranty so I might be looking at purchasing another. I've always liked Garmin but may try Hummingbird instead this time. I've heard good things about them.

Read this in the 160 Blue manual.

Pressing the Power button briefly will activate or change the backlight settings.  There are 3 backlight settings, Off, Medium, and High.  Maybe yours is off?
