Went and got my sticker for Cypress and then launched at the north end to see what we could fine. Fished all over the buck brush but didn't find anything but GAR. They are spawning so the bass shouldn't be far behind.
I talked with the guys at the lake office and they said the bass haven't moved up yet but a lot have been caught in the channels and deeper water.
Anyway, we saw a few in the pad fields that we scared. We tried lizards, worms, vibra shocks and spinnerbaits but no takers. The water on the north end was pretty clear in the brush and just a mild stain away from it.
We ran down and fished some docks and picked up one about  1 1/2. just a nice health fish. It came in about 2 ft of water.
The temps on the north end was 61* and the docks were 60.5* with a lot more stain in the water.
We only fish for about 3 hours, but my son bucked up and started using a baitcaster. I've been teaching him how to pitch and he picked it up pretty quick and did very good on the water. In fact he has never stuck with it that long. I just wish something would have bit his line but maybe next time.  :)

I was hoping they'd moved into the shallows.  I'm planning on being there Friday morning to get my sticker

Mike Noble

Thanks for the report Russ.  I am planning on heading out there today and was hoping the buck brush was the key.

The Gar are in there but the bass should be moving in there any time. The temps are right and if the weather holds, it wouldn't surprize me if they are in that stuff by the weekend. There was a lot of boats under the bridge crappie fishing. The moss and grass around that brush is bad this year. Good luck Mike.  ;D

I would have thought that the bass would have moved in before the gar...wonder if the bass have already been there.  :-\

It should be warm enough for ya now Noble to go.  Remember Russ hates spinnerbaits, so I betcha he didnt throw one.

Russ199A

Believe it or not, I did throw one, chart/white in the pad fields on the north end. You are right I hate  ^-^ spinnerbaits, but I have vowed to myself that I would throw them and build my confidence in them. I know that they catch fish, I just haven't ever used them very much. I normally would just use a rattle trap or a crack bait. But as the Red showed the other day, sometimes a person has to use a spinner.
I put in my post that I used one. Of course I caught my fish on a lizard.  lo

When I talked to the guys at the lake office, they said that the bass haven't moved up yet. However, with temps being 60*+, the bass should be playing "Barry White" right now.

I am not from the area, can someone give me some information on Cypress lake. Is that the lake that is on ULL campus?

Nope not on ULL, it's called the Cypress Black Bayou Park & Recreation Area located in Benton.  Cypress Lake is the bigger of the two with no slot and has the park and camping area.  Black Bayou is a smaller lake but can have some big fish and has a 14-17 slot on the lake.  A link below should give you all the info you need but if you have any other questions let us know.

Cypress/Black Bayou Recreation is shown here. Cypress is the larger of the two lakes. It is located north of Bossier City and just south of Benton.

I'm going in the morning. Hope to find a solid pattern.
