Need to mount a transom mount transducer and was wondering what would be the best position.  Either on the inset where the drain plug is or the upper level where the motor is mounted???  Thanks in advance.

Not sure what brand you have, but Lowrance recommends in their install guide: "Also, don't mount it closer than approximately one foot from the engine's lower unit."  This means it pretty much has to be on the upper level transom.  Have a '99 Triton and mine is about 12-18" from the centerline with no problems and get good readings at WOT.
