Decided to hang with my boys all weekend because I have fished tourneys every weekend so far in 2008 . Had an excellent weekend.  ~c~

My kids knew it was getting to be white bass time and were on me to go this weekend so we got there this morning around 7 am .I was too lazy to catch crawfish this morning so we got 4 dozen shiners and fished til we ran out around 11 am . We caught 42 whites and yellows. Of these only 22 were kept and are able to get the filet knife. Everything was small for the most part and the action was ok. We did well compared to other folks ............I talked to two other boats at the Dairy Qeen and one only had 2 and the other had 5 so we were extremely fortunate today . The one thing that made the difference was to cast out deep and slowly reel the bait back to you . Everyone else I saw within sight were not catching anything but they werent reeling their bait in either so take that for what its worth.

The Boys make dad get to the back of the boat

Youngest boy caught the first fish of the day ...a small yellow bass on his Superman pole.

chris, did you have to go up into texas to find them? I got a few spots in LA that I like to take my boys too if there biting already. I use a little crawfish setup and drag it from deep to shallow to limit out most trips.

We used the same retrieve this past spring and boated well over 100...only ours were with crawfish...VERY VERY small crawfish...could barely get the darn things on the hook but it was worth it...trust me... :)

The fish arent  in the river thick yet . There wasnt enough current but the rains will change that . They should be on fire in the next ten days. I never use shiners and always crawfish but like I said I was lazy Sunday morning and went the easy route. ;)

Mitch , we were only MAYBE two miles upstream from the Logansport launch so yes we were still in Louisiana .No doubt two adults could limit out in this spot within a couple of hours .I sat back and let my kids have fun because we didnt have many shiners and this trip was all about them.

Thanks for the info chris.  Hope to take my two boys this weekend and have some fun. I've been teaching my 11 year old how to use a baitcaster and he's dying to go show off! I'll be sure to post if we get to go.
