 :help:

Can anyone out there give me any advice or information on replacing my steering cables? I was out last Tues. and putting my boat on the trailer...my steering cable snapped. I took it to a marina closeby and the guys there told me I was incredibly lucky that it snapped when it did (putting it on the trailer).

It is an older model (1985 - 373V)...I bought it from a guy who had left it sitting out for over 2 yrs UNCOVERED/UNWINTERIZED in upstate NY....totally trashed - I gutted it out and completely re-did the interior, and had to put a couple $$$ into the motor. Its got a 150 Merc Black Max motor -- I have been running it for the past 3 years. It usually runs real well. Apparently only one of the two steering cables were actually working...the guys at the marina said there is supposed to be a plate that connects the two (under the motor) and it was never there since I've owned it. They said I was lucky the other cable didn't snap at 50-60 mph....would've, could've been real nasty!

Anyways, I'm not real sure what this plate looks like or how its supposed to be positioned..if anyone out there could help me out with some info or pict's - I ordered all new cables, they are due in on Tues. and I am hoping to get it all pulled back together QUICKLY....supposed to be nice Wed and Thurs. - would really like to get some practice time in!! Thanks for your help!!
