i have been fishing for a few years now and i have never thought about making a rod. i think it would be a great experience to make one. could someone tell me what the steps are, what goes into making them, and about how much it costs to make one? i would love to learn how to make a rod.

We have a thread around here somewhere that talks about making a rod. I will look and see if I can find it for you. If I don't we have a couple folks that do build rods on the site and they will surely chat with you about it.

Here's that thread

Not much to it yet but just needs a question to get it going again :-*

You know there's enough people here who have built their own rods and could easily give you the majority of the steps in the proper sequential order, but my best advice would be to first go to your local library and check out a couple books on rod building, then you'll have to pick up the supplies you need to build your rod - but before you purchase any supplies, you'll have to know what type of rod you intend to build.

Years ago when I built rods I got my blanks from Herters, but I don't even know if they're still in business. I always used Fenwick blanks, but there's a variety of blanks for you to choose from...just for starters, you might want to get ahold of a Jann's Netcraft catalogue - they have a good number of reasonably price supplies available.

Word of advice...if this is your first rod, take your time with it...

Nnola I have built many rods amd even have an article on the site some where about replacing a rod guide.  Drop me a line if you need help or anything more than glad to help out.

nnola,

Drop me an e-mail and I will pass along several links. Youve received some good advise already. Look at the local library for any available books. I can also pass along some sites that give fairly decent step by step details. One word of warning, you won't be able to stop at one - be prepared for another BAD HABIT: :roll2:
