Not sure if this can be considered a tip or not, but...I do alot of crappie fishing in the winter & am always dumping unused minnows at the end of the day.

This weekend, I finally got around to building a small bait tank for keeping minnows between trips.

I used an old stand alone plastic sink and an old bilge pump I had laying around. I just stuck the pump to the bottom of the sink with a hose from the discharge of the pump stuck down into the drain going to some pvc that is routed back up over the top of the sink. I still need to rig up a filter of some sort. Here are a few pics...

Good looking bait tank - have seen something similar for the boat to keep shad alive when free lining for stripers/bass.

go buy a filter from the pet store from 15.00 to 35.00.

I bought one the other day & have had nothing but problems with it losing prime. It is a larger one but still doesn't seem to move much water. It is going back to Wally World. I am in the process of trying to rig up a homemade filter system.

nice looking bait tank. i have a plastic 55gal drum im thinking of doing the same thing to.
try his for a homemade filter. its for an aquarium but could be modified to work. probably could use the bilge for the pump.

That's a great tip. I think I'll rig something similar up for keeping fresh bait in my home for my new pet bass when I get one next month  ~c~ ~c~
