I have decided its time to upgrade some of my rods and reels. Some are in pretty bad shape and just aren't very good qulity. I've got around 300 bucks to spend and I was wondering if some of you can make some suggestions on some decent gear out there for the money and a reason why your choice might be a good pick. I use a lot of different techniques but the most are flipping a jig, soft plastics texas rigged and c-rig, spinner baits and topwater. I guess I need a good flippin' stick, crankin' stick and something for plastics and spinners and topwaters.

Thanks

300 bucks? 150 on a reel the rest on a rod. i always find myself feeling like i got to upgrade every next year.
i got sick of buying the same thing over again, since i ain't rich, my best setup costs around 160.
i got an abu 5000c3 on a fenwick. a daiwa on a fenwick, and a used pro qualifier i got for 20 on a lightin' rod
3 reels: 160 bucks
3 rods:190 bucks
1 day of fishing: priceless  :)

Good choices on the low price end are All Star rods at $60/each and either Pflueger's or BPS Extremes.  There is another thread going on the Extreme combo specials at BPS right now.

Wal-Mart has some daiwa team V rods for $50 that are REALLY nice IMO.  I have a 7fter and it's my second favorite rod.  It's a MH but it's got a softer tip with a good backbone.  Perfect for carolina IMO.
If you build a ramp...I will come...

For a flippin' stick BPS makes a good one for 30 bucks (BPS graphite trigger series) 7'6" H, IM 6 graphite(decent rod).  The "Johnny Morris" reel w/ 10 bearings is a good flippin' reel, and it was just on sale for 80 bucks, normally 119 bucks.  For other applications the BPS extreme reels and rods are good.  If you want to get speciality oriented a low gear ratio "crankin'" reel is nice to have.

I dont know how far up you want to upgrade but you can purchase a kistler graphite series rod for 129.00 which is right in your price range that you had listed.  These are the "starter" series line for kistler but are still top of the line rods that are built with great components.  you can check them out at www.kistlerrods.com

thanks to everyone for the info.  I ordered a BPS extreme reel, Tourney special reel and browning medallion 7.1:1 ratio for topwaters.  The Graphite rod that Bruglure suggested from BPS is GREAT!  Thanks for the tip. I also got a Browning medallion 7ft rod  to match with the reel I bought.  It was in a combo for 69.99 on sale from BPS.  I got all of it Friday and went out Saturday and I am higly impressed with the BPS line and the Browning.  It looks like I will be buying more when finances permit from BPS.  They have some really affordable quality gear.

bassman, another nice aspect of BPS is that all of their rods have a lifetime warranty.  I have brought a rod in, didn't have a receipt, and that was two years old and they replaced it on the spot.  Make sure to see a manager they will make the call.

WOW!  I didn't know about the lifetime warranty.  Now I like the rods even more.  Do you know if they warranty their reels too?

BPS does have some great prices on combos, the new pinnacle lineup has also started to make some heads turn.

I am not sure about their reels, but I think they have warranties of 1 yr..

Dicks sporting goods is having their annual spring sale and it looks like there are some great deals to be had.

I was looking at their Daiwa Capricorn reel, I wonder if that's on sale.
