What would you say is an average cast for throwing a 3/8 or 1/2 spinnerbait ?? What would you say is a "long" cast?

Bassinkorea

I can cast a 3/8 or 1/2 oz lure further and more accurately with a baitcaster compared to spinning gear.

Yes, I would say a "long" cast. I hope this is what you are wanting to know.  ;)

No not quite. actual distance it feet.

Dug

Is all relative so it's hard to say.  I would say a long cast with my spinning rod/reel is 75-100 ft.  With my baitcaster, and I am still very new with it, 150 ft+

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

Average is obviously relative, but I thinf I get your drift.  The only reason I say relative is it all depends on your target.  If you're fishing overhangs, you might only be 10 yards away flipping the bait.

I would say an average cast with a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce spinnerbait would be 30 or so yards.  A long cast probably over 30+.  I have read reports on supertuning baitcasters where 40+ yard casts aren't unusual.

Hope this helps.....

Here's a really good article on super-tuning baiotcasters, and in it there are references to distance.

I just had Mike Cork supertune my curado bantam and I can say that it's definately an improvement over the not supertuned model.  However, because I don't have the hand of the whole baitcaster just yet, I tended to backlash a little more.

Non supertuned curado no brakes applied best cast not really tried winging it yet
Supertuned 1 brake applied.  best cast about 155ft.  Lure weight 1/2 oz.

Can't wait until I get the hang of this... and really test these limits.

I was watching VS. "Big Fish Hunt" last night and this guy was chucking big (I mean big) topwater plugs it looked like at least 200 yds.  I mean he was slinging them a mile.

For me, anything more than 40 yards means instant birdnest.

200 Yards!!  The length of 2 football fields. That is impressive.  Nothing wrong with 120 feet though.

That's how I found this place!

Hey Dug, did you do the Smooth drag upgrade?  I have a 201B that I'm most likely going to send in.  I was toying with the idea of doing it myself but if I send it in I'll have to buy a replacement while it gone ! lo

Dug

I don't believe that Mike did the Drag upgrade, but I believe he could do a great job.

OK, maybe it's a 100 yards, but I assure you it is a lot farther than anything I've ever seen anybody else through.  Haven't you guys seen him on that show?  He was fishing for Peacocks last night.

Go buy some Fire line.  Keep the mono on the reel.. make some cast... measure distance... then spool on the fire line. My friend has a Plugher president with fire line and this set up reaches out there.- He has a 7:1 PT quantum ($199.00)with mono on it and it could not touch the distance..
