TA1 whats your problem, just because you don't see it happening doesn't mean its not!!! I have been on the water many times, fishing a Tx or just fun fishing and smeeled the burning of Mary Jane in the distance. As far as fisherman taking drugs before a Tourney or traveling from point A to point B, the odds are that some do, taking uppers or downers mostly just to get them the day. Just like one gentleman said, there is a drinking problem on tour. Alcohol the last time I check is a form of drug!!!
I personally do  not allow any alcohol in my boat and never will. Professional Guides are drug tested by the USCG, why not the Pro's!!! My 2 cents Reel Slinger

I believe there was an angler on tour a few years back that became addicted to a pain killer after hitting a barge line and breaking his neck/back?  There was a piece on this on the ESPN Bass Center show... So the use of drugs is out there. To what extent? Only drug screening will show the numbers.  I believe the FLW bans tobacco products from use by the athletes while fishing on tournament days. Tobacco along with alcohol is possibly the most widely used drug on the circuit I would wager.. and we have all been around people who have just quit using tobacco for a few days, fun  :shocking:

I have always argued that someone that has arthritis and is taking an aspirin is a person taking a drug to enhance their functionality ..same as a steroid user. The potential for either to harm others is out there.

The alcohol problem is very prevalent it seems... The effects from the night before is evident on alot of people I have fished with the next day at O'Dark thirty while we prepare for take-off.
Example of the alcohol/fishing partnership:  http://www.heaven-hill.com/pr-recent.shtml?article=NDg4NHN1cGVyNDg4MXNlY3JldDQ4ODg%3D (read the 3rd paragraph, I like the word "luring")

I wrote this somewhere years ago...and here is common sense at it's finest... and you can quote me!
"If it is illegal to drink and drive, then why is there a parking lot at every bar/lounge that does not have carry out liquor sales or does not sell food?"

The performance enhancer in this sport is information via outside help. While some stamina is involved fishing many days in a row, steroids ain't gonna win jack!

I agree with you, performance enhanced drugs is not the issue, I think the intent was testing for other drugs like Marijuana, uppers, downers, cocain, alcohol, etc. Again when has anyone met there angler or co angler at the ramp and they smell like a Brewery or they can't stand still. Steroids from my understanding is for bulking up, so I agree with you on that.

T1a, no one is questioning your  integerty, and when does post count mean anything, and no this is not a TROLL.  :) :)

Yes I think drug testing should be in-permitted with in the Pro ranks, they could do it randomly throughout the year. Just my opinion. ReelSlinger

:shocking:I wonder what a performance enhancing drug for the angler would be like? Maybe it'd give 'em a super sense of smell. Then all they would have to do is sniff out a limit -o-lunkers  for the easy win! They must be stopped!!!  PoPo   PoPo

this is a great question...as most people think steroids are for adding strength...however this is only about 50% of why most people who take roids do.

the benefits from different ehancing drugs can vary from anything from, muscle mass to actual strength, to added enduracne, speedy healing, agility, speed, added reflexes, weight loss, to alot more things.

so their benefits would do great for alot of fisherman....

i'm torn on the issue of whether they should be illegal or not  however!
