Don't treat your wife like a child, treat her like a equal, let her take care of her own problems, unless She asks for help.I taught her the knots to use so when she breaks off she reties not me. Let her learn just like you did,let the fish tell her what to fish and how to fish, if she asks a question answer but don't spend the day telling her what she is doing wrong,or you'll end up alone in the boat the next weekend.

Well Tim, you have had several good ideas thus far, but I need a little more help... How do I get her to go fishing with me the first time?  :roll2:  She gets motion sickness, and doesn't like eating fish, and doesn't understand the enjoyment of the fight I get.... I would LOVE to be able to even get her to come along and just relax on the boat and read and sun for the company, but thus far no luck convincing her of the either... Guess the first step might be to get a boat tho??  ~roflmao

Sorry, I tend to get ahead of myself with my planning..  '-{ lo

I started off taking my wife pleasure riding, that gave me a chance to see new areas, water, etc., at the same time it gave her a chance to get use to the boat.  We found that if she ate something prior to our trip she was less likely to get sick.  She ended up loving the ride, looking at different views.

Later, I was able to get her to go and read, sun, etc. while I fished. I started off slow, short trips.  After a while, we went together and bought her equipment and now she loves to fish, get out away from the house and relax.  She fishes tournaments with me in a local club.

I am lucky I guess, it does make a difference, we both enjoy the recreation.

She likes riding in the boat, and the scenery and everything, but she gets really bad motion sickness... She takes dramamine sometimes, but she doesn't like doing it, just because she doesn't like to take drugs "unnecessarily"... I am just going to take my time and try to ease her into it once I get a boat, and try not to pressure her to go... I want her to be there, but I want her to enjoy being there too...

Sounds like a good plan, start small and build so that she enjoys herself.

Good Luck!! ~c~

I would look into a bracelet for her. They have ones that will stop the motion sickness and don't require any drugs. I don't care to take anything unnecessarily either ;)

I would start off taking her fishing on a local pond and fishing from the bank. A local college here has a pond with lots of blue gills, and the grass is kept short with a few picnic tables.get you some red worms a blanket and go hangout under a shade tree with her and let her catch a few fish, you'll have fun jut spending time with her and talking in the fresh air.

Well, I don't really think I am going to get her into fishing... but she enjoys the outdoors and canoeing, so I am just going to try to get her into going out with me to read, or just be company... If she starts to show an interest in fishing, I of course will be more than willing to help her along, but I will not push it, just give her the opportunity, and hopefully she warms up to it...

My wife is scared of gators, snakes and bugs so boatin in our neck of the woods is a hard sell. She fished with me twice when I had my bass boat. She asked to drive the boat so I put her in the driver's seat. BIG mistake!! She decided we would look around first and then fish. Ok, I figured she would get bored pretty soon just toolin around. All I could do was point at were we should stop and fish. She just kept on zoomin around and said we'll stop there on the way back. When she did stop she'd say fish quik its to hot here and off we go again. I thought about throwin her overboard but she's mean enough to swim thru the snakes and gators and find her way home. She was pretty happy as long as she was the captain of the ship but I wasn't gettin much fishin done. Still have the same wife but I have other fishin buddies.  ;D

You can get your wife to go fishing By promising to take her shopping and smiling about it.
You may have to give up some cash also
