Who uses them.  I started using rod wraps around Augest this past year, & love them.  I have wrapped all my bass rods in red, the extra grip helps in casting & setting the hook.  IMHO

Fogy I haven't used them but they sound like just what I need on a couple of my rods. I have a couple that for one reason or another the handle has gotten tacky and cleaning doesn't seem to do the trick. I bet the rod wraps would do just the trick :)

Fogy - I have been using Rod Wraps for a little over a year now.  I originally got them because I like a really thick grip on my rods - so I would wrap a little gauze under the Rod Wrap to build it up.  I have also started using different colors for different rod applications: red wrap for my heavy action rods I use for tubes & jigs, blue for Carolina rig, green for worm rods, etc.

I love the stuff, and always felt a little self-conscious that I was going to be called "pretty boy" for using it.  I feel much better knowing that Fogy uses Rod Wraps now. lo

I was feeling the same kinda thing Gabby, about people thinking I thought I was better then I was.  But that's not the case, it feels so much better & I don't feel so wore out at the end of the day.  The extra padding relieves some of the arm strain for me after a full day of casting 1/2 or bigger baits.

I have never used them, but I will take a long look at Fogy's at the next tournament.  Might be something that could "spice" up the fishing....get all color coordinated.

Rod Wraps are gret when your hands are wet!
Buy Tennis racket wraps from Walmart. They are the same product and they're less expensive, too!!!

Ok when you guys use the wraps, do you just wrap the lower portion of the handle or as I did, wrap the whole handle top to bottom.  Now my question is,  if you wrap from top to bottom how do you do it & still remain able to tighten the reel ring seat?  I wrapped all of mine but now some of the reels are starting to come lose.  I know that I will have to take off the wrap to fix it but looking for ideas on how to re-wrap it so I can still get at the reel.

Fogy, I haven't used the wraps yet but I don't see any reason to wrap the top portion of the handle unless you are talking about a spinning outfit.

Fogy,

I actually wrap the top & bottom cork seperately.  I will wrap the bottom, cut the tape, and then wrap the small top part of the cork (purely to preserve the cork, I guess).

Foggy's got it RIGHT!

Unless you're wrapping a Tennessee handle!

On a Tennessee handle the spinning reel is taped directly to the cork handle.
My buddies and I have found that Scotch® Super 88 Premium Vinyl Electrical Tape  A black, 8.5 mil heavy duty, premium grade all-weather vinyl electrical insulating tape that maintains conformability for cold weather applications. works best for this since it can take temperature extremes and is more adhesive than regular electrical tape! This tape is  resistance to UV rays, abrasion, moisture, copper corrosion, alkalis and acids. Excellent all-weather performance in cold to 0°F (-18°C) or hot to 220°F (105°C). Good stuff!

Wrapping a Tennessee handle starts above the reel at the top of the cork, starting with the tapered end of the wrap, and wrapping over and past the taped on reel mount down to the butt. You'll probably run out of wrap and inch of two before you reach the butt of the handle, but just finish that off with a few turns of the 3M Supper 88 black tape!

This works great. The wrap feels "softer" to your hands and provides a better grip when things get wet!

PS: You can buy different colored tennis wraps at wally world or other general sports store to quickly tell which rod to grab! For example: orange for cranks, red for spinners, yellow for buzz baits, brown for plastics, etc.
