Crown Molding

I don't know how many of you have installed crown molding, but this is the way I do it.  Simple room - four walls.  Pick two opposite walls and start with them first.  Cut those two to the exact width or length of room - wall to wall - and straight up and down cuts.  Get them up and then cut the other two walls with 45 degree cuts at both ends.  Butt those two pieces of crown to the ones already installed.  Wa - La.  You are done. 

In other words - don't do as I did starting out - try to 45 every piece of crown and butt them up to one another and make them fit.  No need to make it more difficult than it already is.

We just hung about 700 ft of it in my house and cut 45s on all corners. We used 4 inch crown and two stepped it in the entry and livingroom. That stuff aint cheap. Crown really makes a house look much better.

Have done them too - the floating type floor - not the real expensive thick stuff.  Have done floors in the stuff you glue together and the stuff that locks together.  Recommend the glue for any room where eating is planned.  Glue will keep the spilled liquids from seeping below.  Recommend locking kind for other rooms as it is easier install.  Cut the pieces so you have a 1/4" gap between the wall and end of floor.  This will leave room for expansion/contraction and yet be small enough to be covered up by baseboards.  You should be able to find some install info online from the manufacturers sites and from retailers like Home Depot/Lowes.  Most rooms you will want to start in the far back corner.  Figuring out where to start is one of the bigger decisions you will have to make.  Here is one link to check out.
