Has anyone put a minkota on a Nitro 482, does it fit or does the plug get in the way. Just wondering

You can usually mount either in place of the other. Might have to drill new mounting holes. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the 482 will chime in.

You can put any motor you want on it.  I prefer the Minkota myself and have upgraded to them on both of my nitros the 640 and 929.  I have never had to redrill holes in my boats.  Most mounting brackets have a few holes to pick from but worse case just use what you can to get it in the position you want and then finish it off with a few new holes and you will be good to go.

Thanks I told the dealer not to mount the motor guide so I don't have any holes yet because I wanted an minkota and didn't know if the hole would match up.

Be careful when drilling the new holes so you don't spider crack the gel coat! Ask somebody what the best way is before you drill if you don't know already.

KMF,

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think a MK will mount on with MG holes, so you were right to not have the dealer drill the holes.  I do know that an older MG can be replaced with a newer MG using the same holes.  I did that myself two years ago.

To keep the gel coat from cracking, use some heavy gauge tape on the boat before you drill, and use a countersink to drill out the hole afterwards.  I think thats about it.... anyone else have some suggestions to keep the gelcoat intact?

After you put on the tape use a small dill bit to dill out all your holes then go back with the size bit you need.

I never had to counter sink the holes because the rubber inserts have a big lip on them to keep it from falling in.

I wish my 882 had a motorguide on it personally. Getting used to the MK foot pedal but the whole thing seems backwards. The flat position on the pedal wants to go backwards, the MG we had was forward, so either all the way up or all the way down was to go forward but its just a pain since neither are true so its alot of going up and down to get it to go in a straight line. Unless I can take the steering cables off and reattach them with the pedal flat and the arrow pointing up so that makes the it go straight when flat?

Its a MK Maxxum 74# btw

Ron Fogelson

Everyone like his own so not trying to bash but you have the best motor on there right now.

I went up to the 80 and started out with a 74 but after driving it onto my trailer it finally broke.  Most not all but most of the guys I've talked to are much happier with there MK after having a MG.

Now as to getting it to go straight, loosen the clamp and turn the whole upper shaft head until while holding the bottom shaft in your hand keeping the motor point dead ahead.  Keep working the upper half until you have the pedal flat and even where ever you want it and then tighten the clamp down again.

so loosen it up and put the pedal flat, then spin the head to get the arrow where I want it? just aslong as the bottom doesnt spin. Think I know what ur talkin about. Damn I've hi jacked again :o atleast it pertains to a MK trolling motor :roll2:
