This might sound stupid but this goes to all the anglers who build their own rods and lures. Ive gotten alot of great information from the net on pouring your own plastics, jigs and spinners. The only thing I havnt seen is were in the

do you get your led?

Moderators:I think it would be a good idea to start(add) a new forum subject on rod and lure builders. Just an idea!

I get my lead from contractors who remodel old buildings. They are required to remove any lead they find and usually pay for a disposal fee. This makes them more than happy to give it to you for free. I usually get a call once a month from them with about 5 or 600lbs of lead.

As for a separate forum goes, I think this is the perfect place for this. Too many forums gets overwhelming for some people. If you need in depth manufacturing info and can't find the answer (although highly unlikely) go here. It is a place where most manufactures congrate to figure our problems out. http://www.tackleunderground.com/

That is an alternative but virgin lead will pour and mold better,and,you will get less slag.
If you want any lead try an auto salvage yard. You can get bucket loads of old tire weights for free or next to nothing...

Usually $5 for 10 pounds. You should be able to buy good lead for around fifty cents a pound.

If you get the used lead like I do, ensure you melt the lead and hold it at a steady temp for about an hour. You then can sift the impurities off the top of the pot before you pour. My centrifugal pourer does this for me, but it's initial cost was huge.

I have a Tulsa Centrifugal Casting Machine and use my coustom mold plates made for me by Garst Ind.

i got a uncle who shoots a lot and saves his lead for making jigs for fishing. also you can buy it at most sporting good/hunting stores cant you??
