Grand Bayou 07-09-06

Kingfish and I fished the TCTC tournament yesterday, man it was HOT. Water temps ranged from 84-91. We started off north of the bridge and managed 2 keepers, one on a ribbit (watermelon/pearl) and another on a Zoom speed tail (watermelon/red). Caught a bunch of dinks. After the sun got up good the bite died so we ran down south and Kingfish caught a nice 16 7/8" slot

on a black/blue wobble head. We ran back north and caught some more dinks and slots on the worm, a swimbait, and a chatterbait. Caught our last keeper on the chatterbait around the bridge near the west shoreline.

Did I mention it was HOT? I wasn't feeling too well so we called it quits about 1400. Enjoyed seeing everyone!

Sounds a lot like Trey and I. We caught only 3 weigh fish all day one one a DD22 crankbait one on aWatermelon Senko and One on a little george. Did not really catch a lot of fish maybe 11-12 all day and most of them were slots.

My partner and I fished grass from 3 to 8 ft and caught 18 fish. 11 slots,4 shorts ,1 over and 2 unders. We were fishing the second cove over from the beach . We would move in to the shallower heavy grass and throw a Texas rigged Brush hog or 10 inch worm and as we worked out towards the deeper water where the sparse grass was we would throw a carolina rigged fluke or centipede. We did this over and over thinking we would finally get 5 fish . We ran towards the dang for a bit with no luck there. We got three slots by the launch from about 2:20 til 2:50 throwing Texas rig and Carolina rig. I think we would fish the same way if we had it to do all over again today. Catching slot fish is very frustrating....especially at the end of the day when you are trying to finish a limit out. I have always been very lucky fishing slot lakes....not yesterday.

Laurie and I fished the TCTC as well, we hit spots 1, 2, and 3 and didn't have a keeper to show for it. Finally went to spot four, which we didn't prefish because we knew we would hit it during the tourney. It paid off with 2 overs and 6 unders. We also caught 10-12 slot fish. All our fish came in 3-8 ft of water with shallow thick grass and sparse deeper grass. I was working a Carolina rigged watermelon french fry in the sparse grass and Laurie was working a Texas rigged lizard in the shallower thicker grass. Other than the fact that at times I thought I would litterally melt, we had a great time.

Mirror image of what my partner and I did but yall caught the right ones.

All of our keeper fish came on a 8in red shad dead ringer 2 overs 2 unders. we caught 9 total.

got a club tourny there saturday night...8p-7a...what can anyone recommend? i wont get to prefish and i need the points bad to stay near the top in the club...anything is greatly appreciated...Jeremy

It was just a very slow day. Think points with grass and creek channels.
