Launched the Xpress from Paige Bayou Marina at 8:30 this morning and fished until 2 and had a good day just not where or how I thought I would catch them. Very cool start to the day, 42 degrees when I launched, and very low tides due to North winds from the cold front that blew through late Tuesday with almost 1" of rain, which caused me to stop short of where I had planned on going. Picked up a Zoom lizard and started fishing a deep drop at the mouth of a bayou in the creek and got several bites but no hook ups. Picked up a Jack hammer and promptly caught a nice 3+ fish but nothing else. Moved down the creek and hit another similar spot with the lizard and had probably 10 bites in 50 yards all but 1 were about 10" fish. Hit another spot without any bites and then eased into a bayou that had a little depth and sat in one spot with 8' of water and caught 7 on the lizard. Went shallower without much success until I hit 3 in a patch of grass the were in the 2-3 pound size. The rest of the day was just random fish along sightly deeper edges in the bayous off the creek. Total of 10 keepers and about that many shorts in just over 5 hours all in the creek. Clear skies and north wind around 10 mph before easing up around noon. Water temps 59-61, air temps 42-65 degrees, tide very low early and rose slowly all day with visibility of 1-2' and the river was at 11.5' and rising. Good day with a bait that I used to fish all the time but rarely put one on in recent years.
Retired and loving every minute of it!
