This time of year I like to fish for Crappie to fill the freezer. Here in Louisiana they call them Sac-A-Lait, perch, speckled perch, crappie, crappy... Seems each person has their own name they grew up with. I grew up calling them "Don't loose it, they're great eat'n"

My local to the house lake, I'm at the ramp in 4 minutes, isn't very big but it's full of crappie and you can be picky. I won't bring one home unless it's 14 inches or bigger. I've got to go a couple times this past week because the winds were down and I neeeeeeded a break from life.

Fishing Black Bayou Benton with 6 rods on a spider rig. I've been managing 12-20 keepers a morning. I'm serious when I say I don't keep them unless they are better than a pound and half... Don't really know how many I've caught.

Drift around in 14-18 feet of water with my rigs about 12-13 feet deep. Seems like white or chartreuse jigs are working better than the fancy colors.

Winter is coming back next week so I'll be staying home for a bit. My back won't let me do much anyway, even with a chair the cold air puts a whooping on me.

Visibility about 9-12 inches, water temp 44 degrees, lake is full.

Fishing is more than just a hobby

Love me some Sac-A-Lait.

In the last few years, bass fishing has taken a back seat to Crappie(Crappy) fishing for me.

I haven't filleted a bass in over 25 years. I've always targeted Crappie for the table.

We used to put a personal 14" limit on them, but since Toledo Bend removed the 10" min years back, it's getting harder to find the "slabs".
