Lake Okeechobee High Water Levels

The current and pro longed water level on Lake Okeechobee has been too high for too long. The result is the killing of submerged aquatic vegetation. There isn't much submerged aquatic vegetation left.

Y'all have too much water on the lakes and rivers and we don't have enough. We're still down 15.40ft on Belton Lake and 17.99ft down at Stillhouse Lake.

The Corps of Engineers are still pumping water from both lake to communities down South of us in and around the Austin Area.

The lake. It's definitely seen better days. I haven't been out on the lake for over year. But when the lake is out of whack, so are the glades. Based off the article, there's strong probability we will not see low water out in glades this year either. Looks like I'm going to have to become a "flats" expert like it or not.

Can't imagine the amount coordination that it takes to control a body of water the size of Okeechobee. I always thought they would have trouble keeping water in it with all the sugar cane fields around it.

I hate to say that we are probably looking at the total collapse of the Lake Okeechobee that we all once loved.

What can we do??

Step 1, Keep USACE's hand OFF and OUT of Lake O and it's well being. It should be left to State only programs like SFWMD (Yeah, I know, not much better than USACE. But when has the Federal Gov ever fixed anything that doesn't line theirs or their friends pockets?)

It is a shame that they can get it so wrong after all these years. Add a active hurricane season coming up, and it could get worse real quick. It should be low right now, not above 16 feet.

Ramps may be totally under water! We have another day of heavy rain coming tomorrow. The NHL Panthers are stuck at Fort Lauderdale airport! Lol
