Fished with my son and his new co-angler this morning for the 2023 Fishin' for a Mission tournament. This is a junior high and high school tournament, but boat captains get to fish with the kids. They have done this annually for a while now to raise money for mission work and get bicycles to kids for Christmas. It's usually on Cross, but this year they did a scramble. I think most teams went to Caddo, but we decided to brave the duck hunters and go to Hosston.

Water temps were low 50s. Pretty chilly this morning, but it warmed up pretty quick. We got yelled at by some duck hunters.    I really did try to avoid blinds as much as possible, but they were everywhere.

Limit was only 3 for this tournament, and we got a limit and managed to cull once right before lines out. I figured our limit was light, maybe 6 lbs or so, so I wasn't expecting much, maybe 10th at best. But when we got to weigh in, their scales had us at a total of 6.93, which was good enough for 4th place in the middle school division. The boys were happy. Pretty good morning at Hosston, even though we didn't catch any of those monsters that come out of there from time to time. Everything we caught was on cypress trees using soft plastics, but I heard a lot of other teams did really well on chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and H&Hs.

Congrats to you and your son on another successful outing.  Tks for sharing the trip with us.  You got to watch out for Duck Hunters this time of the year....  

Years back I ran into some duck hunters over on Toledo Bend.  They didn't yell at us.  They shot their guns up in the air

That's awesome. As you know Hosston can be fickle. Congrats to your boys on a solid finish

Thanks guys. Hopefully that'll set the tone for the upcoming season. They boys are looking forward to it. Our first points tournament is also the TBF Junior state tournament. It'll be on Toledo Bend in January. I usually fish Toledo a little later in the year, so we'll need to do some pre-fishing before it goes off-limits.
