I am getting everything packed up and ready to make a 6 hour pull to my favorite lake in South Georgia.  I have done this many times,  but every year I struggle with how to prepare and what to take.  I will be at Lake Seminole from next Saturday until the following Saturday,  7 days of bliss.  I will be pulling my boat the farthest of anyone else,  and I will be the only one travelling alone.  With the exception of Atlanta,  the entire route will be rural highway.

How do I prepare this week to insure the safest trip possible next week?

A side question,  what is one thing that you do on your family/vacation fishing trips that is different/special? an example would be like taking noodles or jugs and catfishing all night one night.

Quick thought. Do a thorough check on your truck, boat and trailer and all connection points. Make sure you have spare tires and fuses for everything.

Check the trailer hubs/bearings, tire pressure on both vehicles, trailer lights and brakes etc.

As far as road safety goes, watch out for the other guys out there. I could tell you a couple horror stories.........

I am one of those guys that plans everything for a trip of any kind.  Pulling a boat is another important element.

I suggest that you prepare a written check list of all items.  One list just for the boat and boat contents and another list for the tow vehicle and contents.  Start early and do as much as you can as early as you can to avoid any last minute rush to get it done.  On departure day the only thing you should have to do is jump in the truck and go because everything else is completed and double checked.  This way you start your day on an easy note that will keep you happy (except for the Atlanta mess)   Don't be in a hurry on the road and all will be well.

I travel with a floor jack and an extra spare tire. My truck has a beacon (for plowing snow) for roadside emergencies. A portable one would be good to have.
My Triton trailer needed to have the axel strapped up when running on 3 wheels. Luckily my Ranger runs fine on 3. Still carry everything I need to strap it up......might help someone else.
I carry a generator to charge the boat should I boondock somewhere without available power.

Roadside assistance for truck and boat important to have as well as with on the water Tow coverage.

15-20k miles a year towing the boat though $6 diesel might cut that back some lol

I stumbled upon this thread and noticed that there was a question about preparing for a fishing trip to Lake Seminole. I hope I'm not too late to share my 2 cents. Firstly, it's important to ensure that you have all the necessary items for your trip such as food, water, sunscreen, bug spray, and a first aid kit. It's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared, especially when travelling alone. Regarding your side question about trying different types of fishing, it's always a great way to mix things up and learn new skills. My family and I have tried deep sea fishing, fly fishing, and even ice fishing. Actually, it all reminded me of our trip to Mount Kilimanjaro. It felt like it took us ages to prepare for the trip. I wish I found this article then https://altezza.travel/en/climbing-kilimanjaro. Btw, is anybody here who has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro? I'm really curious to discuss that!!

Well, you're only 15 months too late. ~roflmao
