Fished the YFC tournament with my son last night. For those that are local, it's a great faith-centered tournament series run by some stand-up folks. Great opportunity to fish with your kids.

Water temp was high 60s I think. I can't tell you an exact temp because we had no electronics... more on that in a minute.  lo

Water clarity was stained, with areas near bayous being pretty muddy. Little bit of wind, just enough to get a nice ripple on the water.

Fish were biting good, especially in and around the grass. Lots of fry swimming around. We should've done well, but it ended up being a rough one for us. Just not our night I guess.

Had a battery that died and didn't charge, so we get out there and electronics wouldn't turn on. I say "no big deal, we don't need it here. We know the lake." Son catches the first keeper. He turns on the livewell pump... nothing. I guess when I installed my batteries I accidentally put some other stuff besides electronics on that one. So we use my dry bag to bail water from the lake to fill the livewell. Thankfully my recirculator was at least running.

After that, I caught a couple of short fish. We had been watching one that had been hitting the top of the water like a commode flushing. I cast out to it and got hit, with a big splash, but my jumpy self didn't let him take it long enough before I set the hook. Jerked it out of his mouth and he never hit again. Dumb. After that my son lost two good ones right at the boat.

Oh, and we got the boat stuck and spent about twenty minutes getting it back out.   lo
Just one of those nights.

To top it off, we get ready to head to weigh-in as it starts getting dark. We put in the light poles and flip the nav lights switch... you guessed it  lo

So we headed back as carefully as we could without lights. Thankfully it didn't get real dark until we got back.

At the weigh-in there were some really good fish weighed. Adult big bass was over 6 lb, and lots of kids had good bags.

Anyhow, we had a good time in spite of the mishaps, and my son got to learn how to get a boat unstuck with spud poles  lo

Next one is at Hosston, which ought to be good.

The bad days make the good ones that much better... Glad your son got to hook a few  ~c~

Tks for sharing the trip report with us.  Sometime there are trips like that.  Hope you got the batteries / electrical issue fixed.  Glad your son was able to catch a few.
