Okay, so no tournament or practice, just fishin' for fun, so a report is needed-

We fished the upper lake yesterday, in places I haven't fished this time of year in over twenty years. And fishing was pretty good. We didn't try to beat anything out- once we found something that worked we just moved on to try something else. It was a killer plan, for a change. We fished about five hours- our best five bass went around 19 pounds and we caught about nine keepers total.

The weather was about perfect. A front was blowing through with changeable winds and a high sky. We fished mostly stained water with a water temp at quitting time of 76 degrees. Water levels were still almost two feet low (that'll be fixed by today- it's a Holiday at LOZ!)

We caught fish doing just about everything- the first keeper came on a Spook almost right away. The best bite was split between a jig (brown & orange) for both of us. Mine was an old-school jig that I build with a 1980's Guido Bug as a trailer and Jeremy's was a "modern" Omega jig with a twin-tail Omega (his sponsor) trailer. Mine was better (!)

A square bill crankbait, one of the ones that I build, was killer and I caught my biggest bass, almost six pounds, plus several other keepers on it.

We never caught a bass deeper than three feet and got into them in 12-15" of water in one spot. It should stay that way for a week or so, especially as the water comes up, which it will. It's Memorial Day weekend at LOZ. It will.

I also caught  a few walleye (on purpose, but nothing big) and a few white bass on main-lake stuff with a Deep Little N. It was good fishin'.

There you go- hope this helps someone. Peace.
